This beautiful white sparkler from the producer Leonardo Bulli comes from the Hills, aka Colli in Italian, around the town of Piacenza in Emilia-Romagna. The grape this wine is made from is a delightful indigonous variety called Ortugo which makes herbal mineral driven wines and is organically farmed from vines up to 50 years old. This is an easy drinking wine often referred to as “farmer-fizz” as often this would be enjoyed over lunch in the vineyard! This wine is coined as an alternative wine by the wine maker rather than using the term natural, as they question what an artificial wine is. Alternative, meaning minimal intervention in the wine making process, use of native yeasts, and minimal addition of SO2 to preserve the final product.
