Tuesday was a day we won’t soon forget at Thomas Liquors. Completely unannounced, Chuck Wagner—the legend himself—walked through our doors alongside his daughter, Jenny. Looking to support a family-owned shop, chat about wine (especially the MN native grape Itasca), and discuss market trends, they made our day in the best way possible.

Believe it or not, it was Chuck’s first-ever visit to Minnesota! He was incredibly genuine, down-to-earth, and every bit the icon we hoped he’d be.

If you want to hear more about Chuck and Jenny’s visit, what wines they picked up, or snag a signed bottle of Caymus from the man himself, you know where to find us!

On International Women’s Day, let’s celebrate the amazing contributions of women in wine and spirits! Stop by and explore these standout selections—all crafted, led, or owned by women. Here are just a few of their stories we love to tell:

Lucy Pistolas Mezcal - Honoring the women who fought in the Mexican Revolution to reclaim the lands where this mezcal is made.

Knudsen Vineyards - Page Knudsen Cowles is the owner and managing partner, taking over the family business from her parents, who were some of the first wine pioneers in Oregon in the 1970s. Fun fact: she also has roots established locally, splitting her time between Minnesota and Oregon.

Roserock Drouhin - Led by Veronique Boss-Drouhin, whose father set up vineyards in the Willamette Valley back in the 1970’s under their renowned Burgundy family name, she is at the top of her game making Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that are some of the best in Oregon.

Occhipinti - Arianna Occhipinti has been blazing a trail for both women winemakers and bringing high-quality natural and biodynamic wine to the Mount Etna region of Sicily.

Zulal -Meaning “pure” in Armenia, Zulal is the creation of Aimee Keushguerian, second-generation winemaker who celebrates native Armenian grape varietals. Her story was featured in the 2024 documentary, “Somm: Cup of Salvation,” a film about Aimee and her father’s journey to make exceptional wines in one of the most historic, and tumultuous, regions in the world.

About the Maker: Matthew Rorick has been the winemaker behind the Forlorn Hope wines since the inception of the label in 2005, and tends 75 acres of organically farmed grapevines at Rorick Heritage Vineyard. In previous incarnations he has repaired submarine telescopes for the United States Navy, ridden skateboards for a living, and built electric guitars. His love of wine was fostered in him by his grandfather David Rorick Jr., who was a consummate dining partner and storyteller. His current efforts at RHV, including producing organically farmed estate wines and reconnecting with California’s pre-Prohibition viticultural traditions, are largely inspired by conversations at his grandfather’s table.
