When you run a fine wine business for more than 25 years, you get to meet many interesting people from all walks of life-wealthy business owners, hard-working laborers, chefs, artists, you name it-all united by a singular love of good wine, good food, and great conversations. Some of these longtime "friends" of Cloverleaf include a couple who, upon retirement, realized their dream of owning a second home in the south of France in a small town near Avignon. It sure sounds idyllic (and it probably is!) but how many of us would love to live part of the year in the beautiful French countryside, taking time in the fall to help hand-pick grapes in the local vineyards of friends and neighbors?
Well, here is one such couple who worked hard to make their dream a reality. Several weeks ago, they packed up a shipping container with some of their favorite local wines, loaded it onto a slow boat, and came back to Michigan to await its arrival. And now our ship has come in! These wines are exclusive to us in the entire U.S. (in the case of the Domaine des Amadieu, which we will feature in upcoming newsletters) or Michigan (Faverot is available in two other states). This week, and for the rest of the year until it all runs out, we will be featuring wines this couple personally selected from some small family winemakers they have befriended and helped over the years. Here is their story:
"We purchased our home in the south of France in the Luberon area of the Vaucluse in 2001, just a couple of years after our eventual friends Francois and Sally Faverot de Kerbrech moved from London to the Vaucluse, both of us intent on making our dreams of living in the south of France come true.
