These are movies about great men, but I would argue a Great American Film should celebrate great Americans. ...

25Nov Guelwaar (1992) Posted by: mark Categories: Moviemakers Movies No comments Guelwaar is two films for the price of one. On the one hand, it’s a simple story of a comic mix-up. Pierre Henri Thioune, also known as Guelwaar (“the noble one”) has died, but the morgue accidentally released him...

I showed Chinatown to Caleb and he didn't care for it—found it pessimistic and cynical. Nevertheless, it remains a sharp script and a film classic. Warren Beatty, Jack Nicholson, and Tom Cruise often hired him to polish their scripts, and he did enough work on The Godfather that Coppola acknowledged him while accepting his Oscar for best screenplay.

Robert Towne's script for the 1974 film Chinatown became a model of the art form and helped define the jaded allure of his native LA. His other credits include Shampoo and 1990's Days of Thunder.
