This weekend was a cold camping trip at the Chickamauga Battlefield campground. It was a great opportunity to learn how to deal with cold weather. There was a lot of debris from recent storms so the industrious scouts built a makeshift shelter on their own. It’s always colder in the battlefield and we got down to 17 degrees Friday night.

While camping this weekend we did a little trial by fire. One of the basic scout skills is fire building. Over the last few years either the weather wasn’t good or we had severe drought. Finally the scouts got to build their own fires and boil a cup of water. Everyone had a great time. Even some of the adults got involved!

Today Troop 99 is in Talladega at the motor speedway. Everyone is having a great time watching the cars and several scouts did the race experience. They got to go down into the infield and see the cars and some of the drivers.

Skymont - Saturday, November 2, 9:00am – 5:00pm (Camp time)

The Range & Target Activities Committee is offering a LIMITED AVAILABILITY for Scouts BSA members to spend the day at Skymont earning either Rifle Shooting MB or Shotgun Shooting MB. Cost is $15 for Rifle MB, $30 for Shotgun MB. Lunch is available for $5 or bring your own. Space is limited to 16 for Rifle and 10 for Shotgun, so don't delay! Register today or you'll "miss your shot."

The Range & Target Activities Committee is offering a LIMITED AVAILABILITY Cub Scouts Range Day at OLPH on November 9th. Tigers through AOL (sorry, no Lions) will be able to work toward earning the Range & Target Electives for their rank, including BB, Archery, AND Slingshots as part of a single session. Choose between morning or afternoon session. Space is limited to 30 Cub Scouts per session.

This weekend Troop 99 was honored to participate in and helped plant some trees and do some erosion control at one of our local parks. We were excited to work with Girls Cub Scout Pack 3070 & BSA Troop 1070 - Ringgold on these projects. As scouts, we are always looking for opportunities where we can give back to our community. We are in maho bay today. Last night many of us slept under the stars. Sunrise here is very early and sunset is just as early. Everyone is having fun and no one yet has gotten sunburned.
