Lou’s Tour de France! #5 ✨🇫🇷
beraud, our South Bay and Peninsula sales rep, has been visiting the French wine regions to meet some of our producers. We invite you to come on board and discover our domains from Lou’s point of view, with fun facts and photos from her visits. 💃🏻

On this second-to-last stage of our Tour de France, we’re stopping off at . This domain is based in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and has been run by the Favier family for generations. Their vineyards cover 50 hectares and are part of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. This appellation is the oldest AOP in France. Alexandre, even in his early 30s, has gained recognition from influential wine critics like Robert Parker. 🍇

Fun fact: Their cellar is in the former home of a parish priest. The estate is very old and their wines became famous thanks to the pope who lived in the Chateau on the hill and exported the wine. 🍷

Chante Cigale is a special estate because they use triangular concrete vats instead of round ones. ✨

Our second stop concerns , located in Monthélie in Burgundy with parcels in the Monthélie, Meursault, Auxey-Duresses, Beaune, Savigny-les-Beaune and Pernand-Vergelesses appellations. The name Dubuet-Monthélie is an homage to David Dubuet’s grandfather and grandmother. They offers 17 crus, including two white 1st crus and five red 1st crus. 🍷

You can see Mont Blanc from their vineyards. Legend says that the vines that face Mont Blanc are the finest. 🏔️

Lou’s Tour de France! ✨🇫🇷

We start today with in Alsace. The first cooperative structure in France, Cave de Ribeauvillé was founded in 1895. In the aftermath of the Franco-Prussian war, 44 Alsatian wine growing families joined forces to pool their harvest around a common project. Forerunners throughout the vineyards organised themselves into a wine cooperative in the pretty village of Ribeauvillé, on the Alsace Wine Route. 👨🏻‍🌾

One of the photos of this carousel with the burnt wooden statues is the Clos du Zahnacker. is one of the few cooperative to have its clos. It’s a historic clos because Louis XIV drank wine from it. 🍷

Whoo-hoo! 🥳

has published its ranking of the 25 best orange wines for 2024, and ’s "Bheeyo" is one of them! They’ve made the list two years running now. 🧡

Here’s review of "Bheeyo":
« This California skin-contact wine is a unique blend of Colombatd and Gewürztraminer with a splash of Zinfandel and Albariño. The nose is straight up grapefruit juice. Like, it smells like freshly squeezed grapefruit juice and creamy yogurt. The palate is well balanced with more of that vibrant citrus character and active acidity. It’s very cool ». And we can only agree on that! ✌🏻

Winery highlight of the week ✨

Discover , a gem in the Côtes de Provence, named after the ‘Real Mauresque’ river. This winery has been Cru Classé since 1955, marking its top-notch quality and heritage. 🤌🏻

Winemaker Pierre Dufort crafts amazing wines from 57 hectares of vineyards, with vines averaging 40 years old, some as old as 1930. The diverse soils of schist, pink sandstone, and galets roulés add unique flavors. 🍃

Just 35km from the coast and at 140-190 meters altitude, Rimauresq enjoys cool Mistral winds and the shade of Notre Dame des Anges mountain. This special climate helps the grapes ripen perfectly, creating fantastic wines. 🍷

Winery highlight of the week ✨

have been rooted in Hermitage since the 18th century. Louis Belle, who took charge, was more into taking care of vines than making wine. In 1933, he helped start the local cooperative, Cave de Tain. Grandson Philippe started winemaking in 2003 on their 25-hectare property spanning Crozes-Hermitage, Hermitage, and St-Joseph. 🍇

Situated in the northern Rhône Valley, 15km north of Valence, the vineyards got certified organic in 2014. The distinctive white limestone clay soil in Larnage, part of Crozes-Hermitage, encourage deep vine roots for mineral absorption. The favorable micro-climate ensures grapes attain optimal maturity and quality before harvest 💚

Domaine Belle, represented by Valentin Belle, was present at our Trade Event 2024 to present these two wines: « Les Terres Blanches » and « Les Pierrelles ». 🫶🏻

Winery highlight of the week ✨

In this stormy weather here in California, what could be better than eating comfort food like mountain dishes (raclette, fondue, tartiflette, or Gratin Dauphinois)? With a Savoie wine, of course! 🫕

In 1966, the Viallet family acquired their first estate in Apremont. Their son, Philippe Viallet, joined the estate in 1985 and created Maison Philippe Viallet. Over 30 years and several vineyard acquisitions, the Domaine has grown to 118 hectares across various Savoie appellations. In 2020, it gained sustainable certification. 🌿

Philippe is also a négociant-éleveur and has contracts with several Savoie, Jura, and Bugey growers. Savoie, France’s only alpine wine region, is located between mountains and lakes and has diverse local, primarily white grape varieties. 🍇

New addition to .wine selection ✨

On this Blue Monday, discover a new addition to our selection: 🇲🇽

Matra is an artisanal mezcal from Oaxaca. Its name, which means “mother tradition” in Zapotec, reflects its roots. It is 100% family-owned and one of the few mezcal producers to have its own brand. Produced by Oaxacan families, it recently won a gold medal at the 2022 Spirit Masters, as recognised by Spirit Business Magazine. 🍸

Matra mezcal has unique flavors shaped by varied terrain. The agaves grow in Santiago Matatlan, Cuilapam, and the Tlacolula Valley, benefitting from ideal climate that produce high concentrations of sugar. The agaves, known as “capones”, mature for a minimum of 10 years and concentrate sugars to the maximum, producing a high-quality, silky-textured mezcal.🌵
