It’s LOVE WEEK at Penny’s 🧡 and we’re bringing the heat despite the snow! Things are heating up inside with fresh new dishes (yes that’s cornbread!) for valentines this week. Plus, we’ve got a little something special for those looking to set the mood for the perfect night:

Full transparency the books are fully booked for Valentine’s Day and Saturday, however we’re back at it today and there’s still room to join us tonight and tomorrow night 🙌🏾 Swing by, grab a bite, sip some wine, or take home a Blind Date bottle for your special someone (or just for you 😉 ).

RVA Fam, Lance here—let me start by saying this week has been truly challenging. To be honest it f’in sucked. It’s been overwhelming for everyone—not just for Penny’s and our amazing staff, but for Richmond and the surrounding communities as a whole. Despite it all, we’re holding onto optimism for the future, even as we navigate the uncertainty of everything that’s happened this week.

With the Boil Water Advisory potentially being lifted tomorrow (fingers crossed for no negative tests), we had to weigh our options carefully. Out of an abundance of caution and timing we’ve made the tough decision to remain closed today and tomorrow (Saturday). With our already limited operating window (Wednesday-Saturday), this week’s challenges have put us behind the eight ball.

We were so excited to kick off 2025 with a bang this week but this unexpected setback has thrown us off course. While it’s hard on Penny’s, it’s even harder knowing the impact on our incredible staff, who pour their hearts into what they do. Running a small business is never easy, and when situations like this arise, it can feel truly disheartening. But we’re taking it one step at a time and staying hopeful.

As we prepare to open next week, I ask for your support—not just for us, but for all the small businesses and restaurants affected by this week’s events. Let’s rally together for our city, our industry, and each other. Make a reservation next week, grab a glass, pick up a bottle, or even just stop by for a smile or a hug—because I think we could all use a little extra kindness and connection right now. This week has taught me some tough lessons and I only look to grow from them.

Here’s to better days ahead and starting 2025 on a strong, united note. Thank you for always showing up for us—we couldn’t do it without you 🧡

💧 Well the good news: the city has announced that water pressure could return as soon as today. However, the bad news is that the advisory will remain in place for another 24–48 hours. While this situation is beyond our control, we are prioritizing safety and precaution by staying closed this Wednesday and Thursday. This will allow our front-of-house and kitchen team to take all necessary steps to reopen safely and responsibly. We will reopen Friday at our regular time at 3PM!

As we close the chapter on 2024, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you! This year has been a journey of learning, listening, and truly growing into who we are meant to be. As we look ahead to 2025, we carry with us the lessons of the past year: facing challenges with positivity, practicing immense patience, trusting the process, and embracing the belief that everything happens for a reason. Growth takes time, and we’re grateful for every step along the way. Penny’s wouldn’t be what it is without our incredible staff and the amazing RVA community that supports us. We’re beyond excited to step into 2025, continuing to grow and contribute to our little corner of Jackson Ward.

Today is our last day open (till Jan 8th) before we take a break for the Christmas and New Year holidays. Our team looks forward to some well-deserved time to eat, drink, travel, visit loved ones, and recharge. We still have space tonight if you want to book a reservation, or feel free to stop by —whether it’s to grab a last-minute gift bottle, treat yourself, or enjoy a glass or a bite with us so we can raise a toast together.

After a wild week last week, we are back at again! Our friends over are bringing Robin & Imogen from Domaine by way of Languedoc to town! We are excited to host them tomorrow night (Friday Nov 15th 5-8PM) for a casual tasting of some their fantastic wines! Sippin on Sool, a special evening with Hana Makgeolli Saturday, November 9th

Join us and Alice from Hana Makgeolli, an artisanal Korean rice wine producer in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. She uses organic rice, nuruk, and traditional brewing methodologies to achieve complex flavors that showcase the breadth of the sool category.

We will be pouring her catalog of Makgeolli, with an array of dishes created and paired by Chef Chris Stough. This will be served family style, with larger plates shared by the table.

Due to the nature of the playing style, allergies and substitutions cannot be accommodated. We look forward to seeing you for this very special collaborative event!
