SALE runs Friday January 24th - Sunday January 26th 2025

Reminder we open at 9am Thursday - Saturday

So once a year we go to the world's largest wine trade show to try and find new wines to bring into the United States, and every year there is one wine that is just an absolute show stopper.

Last year, we took a photo of the wine above floored us on quality (and we were kinda scared to ask the price)...

I wrote down "Absolute grand slam if below $25...maybe best wine we have tasted" in my notes on the picture.

Once we found out we could bring it to you for less than $15 per bottle? We bought everything they had left - 60% of the entire production of the wine 👀.

To celebrate its launch in the US, we're putting it on sale this weekend for $12.99 per bottle - which is basically the same price you would pay for this wine locally in France! Let's gooooooooo!

We'll also have it on the tasting machine all weekend for just $0.01 to try - just to see if it rocks your world as much as it did ours.

I know what I'm drinking tonight!

Let's do this!

Anytime a wine we love scores 95 points in the Decanter World Wine Awards and has a tasting note like the one below, we get extremely excited...

"Interesting herbal nose, with black olive and thyme and chewy, rich to***co and spicy flavours. It's a richly fruited, fresh, precise, broad and harmonious wine with plenty of generosity, bright, snappy acidity and robust, cleansing tannins and a very long finish. Exceptional value. Very classy! Ticks in all boxes."

- Exceptional value?
- Very Classy?!
- Ticks all the boxes?!?

AND we can run it on sale for the lowest price in the US at $9.99 per bottle?!?!

I mean it kinda makes me chuckle as I was reading the latest issue of Wine Spectator just yesterday and they were discussing the best value wines in the world...and all the "value" wines were like $30 and $40 per bottle.

Ummmmm....no.

Value is surely relative, but value is $9.99 - not $39.99.

What makes this wine in particular such a great value?

We might presume that most of the top Old World sites are multi-generational legacies, remaining in the hands of ossified aristocrats served by dedicated minions. I suppose that’s true in some places. But most of the exciting things happen in Europe are the result of new blood; new folks like Joséphine and Frédéric Arnaud who took over this property in 1995. Northwest of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the Arnauds have more than 200 acres of Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre, the latter a grape that has only, in the last two or three decades, become more typical of Côtes du Rhone blends.

Again, it helps to add some new blood to these old places...especially ones that want to specialize in high quality wines that everyone can enjoy!

We will have the wine on the tasting machine all week for only $0.01 per taste - just so you can see what all the fuss is about!

I know what I'm drinking tonight!

You'll Need Some Wine...

Listen up folks.

The snow to wine index has been deployed for the first time in a long time, and it appears everyone needs to get moving.

Most of our stores are clearly in a 3 bottle zone. All of Charlotte, Asheville, Chapel Hill, Morrisville, Raleigh. Man oh man 😂

Dunwoody is squarely in a two bottle situation, but why stop there...

Wilmington appears to be in a one bottle scenario, but honestly at this point who can say for sure.

All this said - we know one thing for sure. We will be drinking wine this evening 😂

What better way to celebrate all this than by grabbing a bottle of the winner of the Silver Oak Blind Tasting from last weekend - still on sale for $9.99 through Sunday.

Remember to stay safe...and please keep up to date on the snow / wine index as it can change at any moment. We could be in a six bottle situation by 4pm!

Our blind tastings always seem to produce some upsets, but honestly this one may take the cake.

Highland Falls, one of our best selling wines of all time, won the Caymus Blind Tasting last fall.

A surprise? Sure. But the wine is a known entity. It sells like hotcakes. I could see it winning in the right conditions.

The Silver Oak Blind Tasting?

In this particular case we have a wine that was the last wine we added to the lineup, a virtual unknown, and a wine we have featured in our newsletter just ONE TIME in our 19 year history, that took home the crown.

I'm sorry, what?

I was so worried that nobody would believe us, that we just decided to include the voting results. You can view them here.

581 of you came out last Saturday to test your blind tasting chops across 8 wines - and 25% of you voted Seigneur de Feu in first place. Besting Silver Oak by 14 votes.

These two wines, a $10 wine and an $80 wine, took home 47% of ALL the first place votes.

Just wild...

What is even more insane, is that in the one e-mail we have sent about this wine (and I just read this and it kinda gave me chills), I told you - as kindof a joke - that Seigneur du Feu was basically like Silver Oak but only for $10 because of the use of American Oak in the wine. 👀

Here is what we told you:

"Throughout the last two centuries of winedom, French wine has been aged in French oak. Or has it? In the 19th century, French forests, planted for warships, were plentiful enough for barrels too. In the early 20th century, barrels made from Eastern European oak became more common, especially after WWI decimated French forests. But they were replanted with purpose; the barrel industry returned and has dominated the idea of top flight wine ever since. Yet, American oak is crucial to many other wine regions: Spain, Australia, the U.S., maybe even Silver Oak (they love that vanilla smell). So this is a southern French Cab with American oak’s lashing of coconut and sawdust – the classic aromas of American oak barrels.

Maybe think Silver Oak from France, but only costs $9.99? There may be some hyperbole in there, but you get the idea! 😂"

Have we just uncovered the next big thing?

I have no idea.

But this is so damn exciting I barely know what to say.

I know what I'm drinking tonight!

🍷 Blind Taste Silver Oak vs. $25 Rivals! 👀

All Day Long!!

Also WIN a 3 LITER of 2019 Silver Oak!

#1 Comment from the end of the year feedback / message box was "more blind tastings!"...so we're just gonna start the year off right, and give the people what they want!

This Saturday we're hosting the OG, the original, the groundbreaker blind tasting - our Silver Oak Blind Tasting.

It's the tasting that brought you winners like Rockus Bockus ($12.99), Gun Bun Mountain Cuvee ($14.99), Ca' Momi ($7.99) , BR Cohn Silver Label ($18.99), Treana Red Blend ($24.99) Snowvale ($12.99) and more. It's the tasting that brings the stars of the wine world to their knees.

It almost seems unfair, I mean a Maserati is supposed to go faster than a Yugo, and a $60 wine is supposed to taste better than a $12 one. Right? Well, maybe not. A wine's success isn't measured in MpH, it's measured in the taste that is transferred from the glass to your mouth. If you don't know the price, can't see the label, and can't hear someone barking in your ear about the wine's "score," then all that is left is the juice and your taste buds. It's a scary proposition for any winemaker. That's why you have marketing departments that design catchy labels, create campaigns to build a wine's image, and spend all of their time and energy essentially trying to convince consumers that a wine is great. The problem is that you can't out "market" a blind tasting.

Which is why we're playing "Find the Silver Oak" this Saturday. It's simple really. The wines will all be tasted blind on our tasting machines. One of them will be 2019 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet and the others will be an assortment of wines at every price point, from a number of different regions. All you have to do is load up your card with $8.00, taste all eight wines (you don't have to taste all 8 if you don't want to, but it's more fun if you do!), and pick your favorite. Yes, that's right, your favorite. If that's the Silver Oak, then great, if not, well that's OK too. You may be surprised as to what your favorites actually are.

We hope to see you Saturday!

Saturday January 4th, 2025 9am - 8pm All Day Long!! Also WIN a 3 LITER of 2019 Silver Oak! Complete The Tasting, Vote for your Favorite, and you will be entered to win a 3 LITER Of 2019 Silver Oak Alexander Valley! #1 Comment from the end of the year feedback / message box was "more blind tastings!"...

SALE Price good TODAY ONLY - SALE ends TONIGHT at MIDNIGHT!

Even though our stores are closed today, each New Year's Day we do a one day sale on our website to ring in the new year - and the catch is the wine has to be offered at our lowest price EVER. That's right...one time only, to kick of the new year right, lowest price we will ever offer.

It's kinda how we roll.

So to say goodbye to 2024 and welcome in hopefully a wonderful 2025, we are offering one of our favorites for an absolutely silly price of $19.99 (I'm getting fired up just writing this!)

We tasted this wine for the first time last year and absolutely loved it, and our love seemed to be matched by you guys as the first week it landed, I watched two customers buy straight cases of it after just tasting it on the machine.

Flying overseas to find wines like this has really transformed some of our offerings as of late. We’ve opined many times recently that the quality level of our $25-$75 collectible offerings has never been higher, and the value we currently have in store between $20 and $60 I would put up against anyone in the US right now. We used to be at the mercy of our distributors and importers, all of which offer a relatively limited selection of wines compared to what is available globally. Being able to find something like Pontey Lamartine Pessac, and be able to offer it for $19.99 per bottle, just gets me really excited.

I hope everyone had a wonderful New Year's Eve!

Here's to an amazing 2025!

It has become a tradition here that we take a moment at the end of each year just to say THANK YOU.

As we approach our 19th Birthday (is this real life?!?), we want to just reiterate how truly appreciative we are of you spending your hard earned dollars with us over the last 12 months and we hope to continue to earn your business as we enter 2025.

We are humbled by the opportunity to serve each and every one of you, and we don't take it for granted.

Inflation and rising prices continued to be buzzwords in 2024, and we are proud to tell you less than 0.5% of all our products saw price increases this year. Our commitment to everyday low prices means we work tirelessly with our suppliers to keep prices down...and we are going all in on our efforts in 2025. Our goal is price decreases!

Know this...here at winestore. you will always be getting the absolute highest quality product at the lowest prices in North Carolina and Georgia, each and every time. We will treat your money as if it was our own, and give you 5 star service each and every time.

All that said, we are always striving to get better, so if you have any suggestions on how we can improve please write to us (e-mail is in original post), and let us know the one or two things you think we really need to add to our service offerings, to change, to overhaul - anything at all (heck, even if you just have some positive feedback). Many suggestions from the year end suggestion box have been implemented over the last several years. Everything from name tags, updated hours, and process changes....the customer knows best, and we are listening.

We hope to see you today (we are open until 6pm!) as you stock up for your New Year's Eve! If you're like us, you need some wine before heading to bed at 9pm :)

Also, for what it's worth, if you've been saving a nice bottle for a special occasion - we encourage you to open it up tonight. It doesn't have to be bubbles. Life is short, and our time here is limited. Things can change in an instant. No better time than now to celebrate all we have to be thankful for!

Thank you again, Happy New Year, and blessings to you and your family for a wonderful 2025!

Could we set a sales record today?

Did we save the best for last?

Well...we wanted our final deal of the 2024 Holiday Season to be special, and Cape Charles Cabernet for $19.99 seemed like a great chef's kiss to what has been a fun season of wine, friends, family, and general merriment.

Quick note - this wine has never sold for this price before. Ever.

Since 2021, Cape Charles Cabernet has busted every single sales record we ever had at our stores. Every month, month after month, this wine sits at the top of the heap - and for good reason! This is one of the best sub $25 wines you will find - no matter the region, grape variety, etc. It's one of the best.

At $19.99? We're entered the realm of absurd value.

It's also worth noting this wine was our Wine of the Year in 2022 AND 2023.

A label developed with Baron Ziegler (he's kind of a big deal, you can read more about him here) to take advantage of the high end left over juice, the results have been unreal. The label itself was lent to the project by artist Peter Curling - he's also kind of a big deal and you can read more about him here.

We started with Kamen Moon Mountain juice which sold out in just a few weeks. We then doubled down with 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Leonetti in Washington State. After the Leonetti success we told Baron the next one had to be huge…and he delivered.

This 100% Cassata Vineyard Cabernet is the best wine he's released yet, and I'm not sure it is even close.

Reminder we open at 9am Today!

In a 33 e-mail strong thread that goes back to October 14th, we were negotiating a deal on 2021 Alea Fina Napa Cabernet - a collaboration between Sebastian Donoso of Bonterra Organics and Conch y Toro and winemaking superstar Paul Hobbs. The wine has all of the pedigree of a triple crown winner, and it is everything you could want from high end Napa Cab. A great video from Paul and Sebastian can be found here.

All that said, the winery retails it for $150.00 per bottle (HERE), and $150 per bottle wine isn’t moving super fast right now. We agreed to buy 50% of their entire available stock, 476 six pack cases, if we could retail it for $39.99 per bottle. They agreed, and here we are!

The wine arrived two weeks ago and in the time it took us to get the wine all the stores in NC and GA, you all have purchased 324 of the 476 six packs 👀

When deals are this good...word gets around.

That leaves just 152 six packs for all North Carolina and Georgia.

There are no words I could put in this e-mail that could adequately convey how silly this deal is…so I will copy and paste from an e-mail I received from a customer just 3 days ago after they had bought a six pack back on Dec 8th, and wanted some more:

"Please up to 2 6 paks - This might be the best ever"

He is not wrong...it might be the best deal ever.

This is the lowest price this wine has ever been offered for, by a wide margin, and I would venture to guess given the extreme back and forth we had with the winery, that it will be the lowest we will ever be able to sell it for.

We've reached the point in the Holiday Season where the next 4 deals are going to be some of the best we have ever offered...and we'll start with Grand Cru Saint-Emilion for $19.99.

One of the wines that really got me into drinking and collecting wine was Chateau Pavie. It's a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon from this region of Bordeaux...and it's like really, really awesome (that is a professional wine recommendation).

Sadly, it now costs over $350 a bottle (inflation much? 😳), and that's not really in my wheelhouse.

So when we tried the Vieux Lescours for the first time back in 2023, I got that same Chateau Pavie feeling.

We're talking similar grape blend, a vineyard originally planted in 1850, 12 months in 75% new French Oak, and all the acidity a wine like this needs to be an age worthy rock star.

That $350 Chateau Pavie feeling for $19.99 is what I look for in wines I drink.

It also doesn't hurt that this is 54% lower than the already lowest online price for this wine in the US.

You guys know that is how we roll!

Price is good till Sunday or honestly until we run out (a Corporate Customer purchased 436 bottles of this earlier this week so that took a chunk out of our inventory!)

TGIF!! 99% chance I am drinking this tonight!

We are not slowing down. Today is one we have been waiting to release for almost 6 weeks.

In a deal we were able to cut back in November, the powers that be are giving us enough support to go out with Snowvale Sierra Foothills at $14.99 per bottle. This is the first and will be the only time this wine will see this price.

I think a cursory search around google for wines from this AVA will let you know that this deal is pretty silly.

A century and a half ago, the Sierra Foothills was the scene of a whole lot of winemaking. Why? Because there were many, many thirsty men there, all assembled around a pan and a creek or a little seam of possible gold. Sad to say, we don’t know what those wines were like. But we do know that there are still many century old vines in them thar hills.

This particular sample came from the iconic Shake Ridge Ranch (you can read more about it here) and from a winery I was not familiar with (whose name I cannot disclose but it starts with a K 😁). We tasted some great wines the day we tasted with this group, but this red blend stole the show. We were not told what was in the wine and this winery makes so many different bottlings it is hard to try and figure it out - but based on the fact it is from Shake Ridge I am guessing it is from the Rhone components that make up their only Shake Ridge Bottlings (both $80).

More importantly though, it really didn’t matter to us the grape varietal composition - the wine was so good we were buying it no matter what.

Baron Ziegler, who brings us all these treats, continues to impress. In the current California red wine market, to be able to bring you single vineyard offerings of this quality for $14.99 continues to boggle my mind. But these guys just keep bringing the goods, and the bulk wine market right now is an embarassment of riches...if you know where to look.

So....6 days only. $14.99.

What is the #1 most purchased wine by winestore. team members in 2024 (which honestly that is the stat I love to see most as a consumer- what do the people that work there drink)?

Histoire de Grains "Marselan"

The 2023 Histoire de Grains (which is 100% Marselan), is a testament that amazing wine simply does not need to be expensive.

Wait.........what in the world is Marselan?

Throughout the expansive Roussillon-Languedoc are some of the more adventurous French grapes with which you might not be familiar – Marselan is at the top of the heap. It’s a crossing of Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache and in the last quarter century is being looked to as one of the grapes that might save France from climate change. Will it? Who the heck knows. But it certainly is interesting stuff: a bit lighter than Cabernet Sauvignon but with some of its strengths and backbone. Bordeaux has just recently chosen it as a newly approved grape there; they see its character and future importance as well.

So to celebrate this wine hitting #1 team member purchase we're putting it on sale for $9.99 per bottle through Sunday. Please also note this is only the second time this wine has ever seen this price since we started carrying it!

When the Holiday deals start rolling, it's tough not to get caught up in the fun.

It kinda feels like when Oprah just started giving away cars.

So for this weekend we wanted to do something special, and Chateau Carteau for $24.99 fits that bill. I'm feel almost giddy just writing about it.

This is the lowest price we've ever seen this wine in the US (at least in the last 20 years), and the wine is, quite simply put, stunning.

I will challenge anyone reading this to find better quality Bordeaux for less than $75 per bottle. I’d even put this wine up against Bordeaux I’ve tasted in the $150-$250 per bottle range.

Saint-Émilion is the oldest area of Bordeaux and its Roman ruins are a frequent reminder. Still, when the region was getting codified, Saint-Émilion was left out – it was sleepy and nearly forgotten. That changed in the 1990s when the garagiste movement of tiny Saint-Émilion wineries started making stunning, trend-setting wines. So the “Old” Jacques Bertrand Estate of Chateau Carteau is both Old School and modern all at the same time.

Chateau Carteau is a very typical Saint-Émilion blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon and it sees a bit more new oak than is typical at this price point. Half new and half one-year-old barrels generate more spice and weight in the mouth and, in a vintage like 2021, that is just right.

Buy "Hey" you ask, "How do you know it will last 40 years?"

Well, a customer sent us the below pic of a bottle they just drank not too long ago, and they said it was divine!

I honestly can't think of any one wine right now at $25 or less that can go that distance.

So I'm buying a case at this price.

Am I going to age it for 40 years?

I have no idea...but one thing I know for certain, is I am opening a bottle tonight 🤣

My biggest kinda gripe as of late has been that I feel like more and more places are just charging higher prices and delivering lower quality. I'm sure I'm not alone.

That's why I'm glad wineries like Tatiana Guillot still exist in the world. Yes, Santa, I do want a White Burgundy that actually tastes amazing, delivers exceptional quality, and only costs $12.99 per bottle.

I want a wine I can serve at my party, to my friends, that is going to wow them...AND not break the bank.

The Guillot Family has been making Chardonnay in Burgundy for generations, but this is the first offering we have ever seen from them that we could sell at this price.

Oh, and this is not just your regular ol' Mâcon...

Macon Villages was once a bigger deal, or at least it was once a wine that absolutely every restaurant had to pour by the glass. Some of the biggest names in the business started their careers in this airy, Chardonnay-laden territory (you know, like Georges Duboeuf, for one).

In the climate change era, Macon seems to be morphing from light and slightly generic to richer and even slightly buttery. But only slightly. Remember that Chardonnay in France is almost always more about the minerals than the butter; Macon is clean and crisp and tangy. Yet, it is increasingly weighty.

That's what you get here, and it's really something...we’re not quite to California richness yet, but who knows?

🏆 OUR Wine of the Year 🎅🏻

2022 Palace Thief Cabernet Sauvignon
Release Price: ?
SALE Price: $34.99 (net)

Our team gets no direction in how they can vote for our Wine of the Year. The only thing we ask is that they think about the wine that has had the biggest impact on our customers.

The voting was unanimous for first place - 2022 Palace Thief Cabernet Sauvignon.

Back in July when this wine was released, we told you this is most likely the best deal we had ever offered in 18 years in business.

After seeing customer and team member reaction around this wine, I'm able to potentially take it one step further. This is one of the best deals I have ever seen offered in the wine business...period. You don't have to believe me...ask anyone who has tried it 😁

Honestly, we use the above picture every year and I'm really not sure it has anything to do with wine...but we just love it. At this point I can't bring myself to use another picture 😂

Anyhoo...

Do you really need Wine Spectator or some other publication to tell you the best wines of 2024? We don't think so... When we started this company over 18 years ago (is that possible?!?!), we trademarked the line "You're the expert", and we did so because you like what you like and in the grand scheme of wine drinking, that's all that is important. So, in the spirit of "You're the expert", for the 13th year in a row, we are going to let YOU do the talking. We have taken your 26 favorite wines at winestore. for 2024 - using total bottle volume as the deciding factor. We've given those that have not been in stock all year a shot at the list by looking at monthly run rate compared to the top 26. You know, it's all very scientific and stuff :)

Why 26? Why not...Top 25 feels dated 😂

Also fun fact? In a world where prices seem to go up it feels like every 2 weeks, the wines on this list saw no prices increases in 2024. We take a lot of pride in that fact. We're looking out for your pocketbook just as much as we look out for our own.

All these wines are on SALE, by the bottle, for the next few days - and ALL at the lowest online prices in the nation! We love you all THAT much!
These are the wines you and your friends have been gobbling up at record speed this year! They are in no particular order (you know, we hate lists and such things) - so enjoy!

Is it really almost Thanksgiving?! I feel summer was like last week, am I right?

Either way, it means it is time for our annual Thanksgiving Wine Sale!

I'll go on record for this one. You will not find a better selection of oustanding value anywhere in NC, and I'd put these offerings and prices up against anything being offered in the United States right now.

In a world where we already work hard to guarantee you the absolute lowest prices, we are pulling out all the stops!! Inflation has no home here at winestore! I mean, several wines on here simply boggle the mind in terms of the quality to price ratio.

All prices are good through Sunday, November 24th! (no, they are not good on the 25th 😂)

It should also be noted that as always, there are going to be some insane "in store only" specials rolling.

The Story Behind winestore.

When we started this concept over a decade ago, we didn’t want to merely trod down a path where someone else had cut away the brush. Our real goal was to create a wine store that was friendly to everyone, not just the usual Napa Cab buyers (not that there’s anything wrong with that, as Seinfeld used to say). We looked at how could we brighten up the stores, make them easy to walk through, and allow people to even taste the wines before they bought them. That all seemed so obvious at the time, yet it wasn’t happening as far as we could tell.

So we set to work. We were able to find people who loved wine but understood the bigger issue – that it’s not what the wine retailer loves that matters; it’s what the customer loves. Heck, we all have different palates, that’s why we like different wines! The job of a great retailer is to make sure to understand the customer’s preference first and then find the very best version of that style and type of wine that he or she can. That’s the whole reason we trademarked the phrase “You’re the expert”.

Price came into it as well (we are retailers after all!). We continue to believe to our core that you shouldn’t have to spend thirty or fifty dollars or whatever to get a really good bottle of wine. The wine world is far too diverse and interesting today for that to be necessary. So we keep hitting the tastings and visiting places in Spain, Argentina, New Zealand, Italy, Washington State, wherever, to find wines that perform well above their price. We also stand by our everyday guarantee to you; everything we sell will be priced at the lowest retail price in North Carolina…and on many things we are going to offer you the lowest price in the United States. That’s just how we roll. We want to look out for your pocketbook the same way we would look out for our own.

Now, over a decade later, we seem to have found our customers and they’ve found us. It’s on us to keep listening to the people who walk in our doors, finding out what they like (rather than selling them the next shiny object), and bringing it to them at the best possible price. Maybe we’ll soon be able to celebrate our twentieth anniversary if we can stay focused on that.
