He is as gracious as he is brilliant and his wines are truly some of the most incredible I’ve ever enjoyed. The wines of Joly reflect the essence of terroir and age beautifully. I want to tell you about a wine that was one of the greatest experiences in my life. I was in Charleston at my favorite restaurant, Halls Chop House (the best steak house in America) and we had a bottle of Essencia, Royal Tokai. I can only tell you it was the experience of a lifetime and I was lucky to share it with family, friends and staff. It truly is something you should try (drunk with a crystal spoon).

From the legendary Bandol producer comes one of the great rosés. It’s a blend of about 55% Mourvèdre, 25% Grenache, and 20% Cinsault for a perfect combination of red and black fruits and vibrant acidity, given extra concentration from a mix of 65% direct press and 35% maceration. Aged for 7 months in 50% stainless steel, 50% concrete tanks, this wine has depth and intensity, while being fresh and fruity.

I have been remiss in posting this and I’m very sorry. On May 21, 2024 we lost a very dear part of our Old Port Wine family, Jack Dempsey. Not to long after we moved to Commercial Street there was Jack Dempsey walking down Commercial Street after leaving years of work at David Wood clothier and I ask him where he was going and what was he going to do now. Ten years later he finally retired to smoke ci**rs and drink wine.
He was a key part of our group both in choosing and selling wine and more importantly Trivia nights at Bingas Wingas.
I hope you will help us bid farewell to our friend, a larger than life character.
