Reds to Chill (With) Part 1:
As summer rages on, we look more and more for red wines that not only can take a chill, but thrive when served slightly cold. Our shop is stacked with options for wines that you can pop, put in the fridge for 30-45 minutes, then pour. Our first stop in the series is with an up and coming winemaker in a region that is gaining more and more respect.
The story of Azienda Agricola Tiberio begins in the year 2000 on the ancient lands beneath the Majella and Gran Sasso mountains in Abruzzo. Riccardo Tiberio discovered vines roughly 40 years old so impressive that he decided to change his and his family’s destiny and begin making wine. Growing at 350 meters, twenty three miles inland from the seaside city of Pescara near the hillside town of Cugnoli, the Tiberio Montepulciano D'Abruzzo 2015, now from 55 year old vines that grow in clay-calcareous soils, is lifted, mineral and aromatic. Riccardos Daughter Cristiana took over the winery in 2011. Cristiana is a chemistry graduate that teaches college level winemaking and sommelier classes and has studied with some of the worlds best vitners, including Jacques Selosse in Champagne, Nicolas Joly in the Loire and Egon Muller in Germany. Christiana believes “that you can only truly make a wine with the greatest expression of the place if you have lived there and really understand the climate and sense of the place.”

Working with a natural and non-interventionist approach, Bea crafts Umbrian wines that are difficult to describe and must be tasted. Fall weather arrived today and so did some classic fall wines. Check out our redesigned website at tarrywine.com

Once a year we get the chance to taste some new vintages of Barolo and Barbaresco and take advantage of a pre-order structure to get these wines here at the best possible price. This year we offer the totally stunning 2013 vintage. This is a vintage that excites me as these are classically built wines that will thrill at all steps in their evolution. I sat down last week at Bruculino in Norwalk for a great lunch and comprehensive tasting of over 20 Barolo and Barbaresco. We wanted to get them all but narrowed it down to four. The offer below is very time sensitive and expires in 3 days on Friday September 29th. If you’d like to take advantage of the pricing click here - https://t.e2ma.net/message/dmr1r/pn4x6m Wine will arrive in November.

OFF THE RADAR CRU ETNA ROSSO

"Gianni and Franco Calcagno lead a gem of an estate that has quickly risen to the top of Etna’s quality hierarchy." -Ian D'Agata, Vinous
With only 5,000 bottles made, this is one of the smallest production wines coming off our favorite volcano, Mt.Etna. The Feudo di Mezzo cru sits at 2300 feet above sea level on the northeastern slopes of the mountain. Vines are 50-80 years old, with the blend composed of 90% Nerello Mascalese and 10% Nerello Cappuccio. A long, slow temperature-controlled fermentation followed by a year in French oak barriques allows the tannins to soften and gives the wine a fresh and balanced mouthfeel. This is a real steal for the money, as the wines from this vineyard always fetch $50+. Click here to order - https://t.e2ma.net/message/d2ntr/lg4l6m

A NEW WINE FROM LA MOZZA!
La Mozza consists of 90 acres of farmland and lies in the Southwest corner of Tuscany’s Maremma, 7 miles from the sea and 45 minutes Southwest of Montalcino. This area is much drier than the fog-draped hills of central Tuscany. The lack of morning mist means the grapes start ripening at sunrise, and are sun-drenched until sunset. Rain is scarce as the Island of Elba off the coast acts as a windbreak, shifting eastbound moisture to the north and south. Here hot-climate varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon thrive as showcased by this stunning first vintage.

La Mozza Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
A knockout first vintage from the La Mozza team. Not surprising, as we have loved every wine from them since they started in 2004. Clean, intense aromas of mature dark fruits, especially wild blackberry and cassis, with a backdrop of sweet caressing spices, vanilla, cinnamon, and a light shade of pepperiness emerge after some time in the glass. The wine is medium-full on the palate and nicely round and substantial. Fresh but quite broad and very balanced, showing velvety tannins on the finish that give the wine elegance and length. Here at Tarry Wine we are always on the lookout for wines that punch well above their price and fit the season. Right now, at the tail end of a beautiful summer, this 100% Syrah, soft in style and perfect after an hour in the fridge, is just what we are looking for. This is one of those great French reds that don’t always make it out of France, a delicious table wine that provides all the elegance you would expect but without a huge price tag. We only wish there was more of it to go around. Click here to find out more https://t.e2ma.net/message/dy4nr/pn4x6m

Oregon is leading the pack in terms of high quality Pinot Noir. We are excited to be able to offer a stellar example, 2015 Voix de la Vigne, at a price that is hard to believe considering the quality. The Captivating Wines of Marisa Cuomo
Today's missive is about a winery from what is practically Neverland, Furore on the Amalfi coast. Don’t look for a ring of houses standing around a square here. You won’t find it. Furore, the village that isn’t a village, with its houses scattered on the slopes of the mountain, dropping sheer down to the sea, shows itself in the paths and “petingoli”, squeezed between small plots of land claimed miraculously from the rock and cultivated with age-old love, almost stubbornly. Find out more about these amazing wines - and some great deals - by clicking here - https://t.e2ma.net/message/p3cbr/pn4x6m

- Life is too short to drink the same Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio etc. Imagine if the only fruit you knew was an apple. The first time you taste a peach might blow your mind. You may find that you hate peaches (hard to picture) but how would you know if you never tried them. There are 1,368 wine grape varieties in the world. You will probably not get to taste them all, but here is a start.
Starting with white wine, we have complied a list of 13 of our favorite "other" grapes to get you on a path to discovering something different, new and interesting. Click here for more info - https://t.e2ma.net/message/1418q/xtat6m

While the popularity of rosé has never been greater, for many red wine is still a favorite. Hot weather can make the thought of a rich red wine unpalatable so we have put together a baker's dozen of our favorite red wines for summer. These heat-beaters can be chilled slightly and all clock in on the lower side of the alcohol spectrum. They come from all over, from cultures that drink red wine in the peak of summer, so you know they know what they are doing. Mix and match to get the best price. Let's not mince words here, many so-called 'natural' wines are simply bad, poorly made and dirty. The concept of natural is already confusing, isn't wine natural already? What makes these more natural? The word is meant to convey a style of non-intervention in the winery and grapes grown without pesticides in the vineyards. Natural yeasts, no temperature control during fermentation, all factor into the natural side of winemaking. I applaud the desire but the results are often, well, gross.
But when they are good they are REALLY good. Winemaker Frank Cornelissen gets how to make natural wine and today's excellent Susucaru Rosato from the slopes of Mt. Etna is just what I am looking for in a natural wine. Frank has mastered the art of using only natural methods to make his wines and having them taste great. The electric, powerfully rich soils of Mt. Etna are the perfect backdrop to create wines of place, true terrior-driven expressions of grapes and soils that distinguish themselves as some of the world's greatest 'natural' wines.
Pour this for your 4th of July BBQ and the fireworks in your glass might be bigger than those in the sky. Find out more - https://t.e2ma.net/message/d6uxq/pn4x6m
