Flavor: Porters have a balance of malty sweetness and bitter hoppiness, while stouts have a rich, roasted flavor.

Body: Porters are lighter-bodied, while stouts are darker and bolder.

Alcohol content: Stouts usually have a higher alcohol content than porters.

Color: Stouts are darker than porters.

Head: Stouts have a thick head that is usually tan to brown.

While these are the general differences between stouts and porters, there are many exceptions. For example, some stouts can be sweeter than porters, and some porters can be darker than stouts.
