Rain or shine, it’s beautiful at Lincoln's New Salem State Historic Site.

Can’t believe we are one week away from being closed for the season. Thursday is our last day for 2024. 😭 We are open tomorrow for the Fall Festival, closed Sunday/Monday, and open Tuesday-Halloween.

Our Halloween goblins have been working on some special “paint a pumpkin cookie” packs for sale in the gift shop. It comes with a iced sugar cookie, a fun pack of mnm’s, and a mini paint brush. Check in later and we will post a how to video. Super easy! These will be available while supplies last. We will also be trick or treating with the kiddos in both the gift shop and the eatery! Come out and have some honestly good fun!

Stay safe! It's that time of year. We always make a joke in our family that when someone leaves your house and you say "watch for deer" it's just another way to say "I love you".

Deer are on the move! Drivers stay alert to around dawn and dusk to avoid collisions.

- Most accidents happen dawn to dusk from October to November during deer mating season
- Slow down and keep a safe distance from other vehicles
- Be aware around field and forest edges. Stay alert. There may be more than one!
- Use your brights and scan roadsides for "eyeshine" reflection from deer eyes.
- See a deer? Honk and flash your lights to alert other drivers. Brake slowly. Aggressive braking or swerving may cause a worse accident.
- If a deer is hit, pull off the road. Call 911 if the animal is injured.

Wow! It has been an incredible first season at Railsplitter. Due to reasons outside our control, we will be closing temporarily on October 31st and reopening on Tuesday, April 1st of 2025. Thank you for your overwhelming support and love this year. We had such a great time serving you and the visitors of Lincoln's New Salem State Historic Site and cannot wait to get started on the new year with new menu offerings, Little Pioneer Party rentals , and new locally made sustainable gifts. Stay connected with us on Facebook and Instagram for more info on all these updates and other things we might be up to! We will remain active on social media during our closure and hopefully schedule some pop up service,(in the works)! Again, we appreciate all you have done for us and showing up for us in our first year of business. Come out and see us before we close!

Beautiful day for a picnic! Raiksplitter has plenty of seating at it’s outside pavilions. Leaves are starting to change and mornings are gorgeous out at Lincoln's New Salem State Historic Site and Petersburg. Downtown Petersburg Petersburg Chamber of Commerce Witches Walk is today from 10 am- 5pm. Check out their FB page for more info.

Railsplitter will be serving a special menu for tonight's Candlelight Walk event at Lincoln's New Salem State Historic Site. The regular menu stops at 3pm and special event menu will start at 5pm. We will stay open all day. The kitchen will close at 9pm and the dining room and gift shop will close at 9:30. Come in and grab a Flatboat Burger! Already ate? The Gift Shop will be serving up Gingerbread and Sugar Cookies at $1 each or a 6 pack for $5 along with a cup of hot apple cider for $2! This way you don't have to wait in line in the eatery for a sweet treat! Battery operated taper candles will be available in the gift shop for $3. See you soon!

Things are changing out at Railsplitter Gifts and Eatery and Lincoln's New Salem State Historic Site. It being our first season, we are so excited for the fall leaves and cooler temps. We are very excited for the Candlelight Walk coming up on Oct 4th and 5th from 7-9pm. It’s the only opportunity to see the village at night with volunteer interpreters in period clothing talking about life in the 19th century by candlelight. Make your plans for next weekend. Railsplitter will be open late those nights. Stay tuned for more info on our special offerings for that event.
