Royal Tokaji is known primarily for its Hungarian grown botrytis dessert wines, whose quality rivals that of Sauternes. They also make a delicious, mineral driven single vineyard dry white wine made entirely of Furmint. It kind of taste like volcanic Chablis. Is that a thing? Stop in and grab a bottle!

Found three bottles of the Domenico Clerico Aeroplanservaj Seralunga Barolo 2017. The only Clerico wine made outside of Monforte, it is macerated on skins for 24 months and then aged 24 months in barrique, and finally 2+ years in bottle. Wow! A special bottle from one of the Barolo Boys.

Have you had wines made with carbonic maceration? You’ve probably had some Beaujolais. They use this wine making technique all over the world. These four producers from France make juicy, natural, highly enjoyable wines using carbonic maceration. Two Cinsault, one Merlot, one Grenache blend, all from regions known for serious fine wine. One has a label inspired by the band the Pixies. We couldn’t resist ordering it. Try a bottle today, or all four!

We special ordered some Rose just for you! Over the next couple of weeks they will trickle in. Just in time for your pool hangs. Have you had German Pinot noir? It’s is sometimes called Spatburgunder (meaning ‘late burgundy’), and it is great. It is lighter and leaner than American Pinot and most French Pinot. With flavours of red fruit, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and violet, German Pinot is tasty and often times a great deal compared with Pinots of France, particularly in Burgundy. Come grab a bottle!

Some of the “crew” just got back from a visit to in Santa Barbara County, California. We love the wines, the people, and the place. Stop in and grab a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc which they describe as; Ultra-aromatic sauv blanc zest and green apple blasting out of the glass. Complimented by touches of firm pear and a surge of lemon-lime, even tangerine citrus. One-Two-Three steps on the palate with acid leading, followed by mid palate weight, and closing with the quick return of quenching acidity. Packed into the crisp, light body, salinity and a subtle richness create a righteous, classically serious Sauvignon Blanc. We have a few other offerings from Stolpman as well. Come on in!

Here at Howard Street we focus lots of attention on French and Italian wine. That doesn’t mean we don’t love wine from here in the U.S. Here are two of our favorites made by wine makers who seek a healthy relationship between the land and the process of wine making. Also, they just taste good. Stop in and pick some up.

One of the wines we are tasting tomorrow in the wine class. The singular Clos Cibonne Cuvée Tradtion!
Still plenty of tickets left! Link in bio. Clos Cibonne and the late André Roux are almost single-handedly responsible for preserving and popularizing the local Tibouren grape, so much so that their names appear under the Tibouren entry in Jancis Robinson’s definitive tome, Wine Grapes. “Tradition” is the estate’s flagship rosé—or rather, their flagship wine: 90% Tibouren and 10% Grenache (to comply with the Côtes de Provence AOC rules) aged in 100-year-old oak casks...all grown and made less than 800 meters from the Mediterranean Sea. Add those numbers up and they equal a wine unlike any other—fresh, nutty, savory, deep, and wildly expressive. The gorgeous label from the 1930s speaks to the wine’s timelessness and inimitable style, and as anyone who’s tried this wine will enthusiastically attest, its utility extends way beyond summer sipping by the pool. It not only is the rare rosé that improves with age—that is designed to age—but is a true gastronomic chameleon as well.

New arrivals from . Is it summer yet?
1.L’ile Rouge, “Petite Terre” 2021. Bordeaux. 100% Merlot. Whole bunch fermentation for 2 weeks. Bottled unfined, unfiltered, no SO2. Fruity charcuterie friendly carbonic merlot!
2.Domaine Capmartin Tannat Madiran. Tannat/Cabernet Sauvignon blend from Madiran in Southwestern France. Tannat is all about the tannin—and it’s the texture and mouthfeel. This looks, tastes, and smells like mountain wine. The perfect wine for a good burger, brisket, and grilled eggplant.”
3. Ugo Lestelle, “P’tit Bonhomme” 2021. 100% Cinsault from 80 year-old vines. Carbonic maceration lasts 6 hours which is followed by a short élevage in Burgundian barrique for 5 months. Zero/zero. The reductive, earthy notes on the nose diminish to reveal vibrant red fruits and a liveliness only found in nature wines.
4. Alexandre et Antonie Vetois Sancerre 2021. Crisp and clean Sauvignon Blanc from twin brothers in Sancerre. Beautiful aromas of meyer lemon and white peach, layers of honeysuckle and herbaceous notes. Delicate and refreshing with a lot of texture and long finish.
5. Chateau de Grande Pre Beaujolais Blanc 2022. Chardonnay from Fleurie in Beaujolais. Refined, slightly “fat” and creamy white Beaujolais, with buttery notes alongside a slight almond touch. Rounded mouthfeel and silky finish with notes of Ripe pear, lemon meringue, stone and quince.

We love to get our hands on wines a little off the beaten path. We especially love these wines when they are representative of a place. Take this red from the Cotes du Tarn in Southwest France. Made from 100% Braucol (Fer Servadou), this Biodynamic wine is fruity and delightful. Approachable and complex at the same time. I want to go to there. 😉
