We had such a great time at this weeks final wine class of the year! Thanks to all who attended. That was our last class, but we still have one more event left before we close out 2024. Saturday, November 23, from 12(noon) - 4pm, we are hosting a French wine tasting. 20+ wines will be poured, all focusing on classic French wines and a few fun finds. We will also have a room of wines deeply discounted to make room for new vintages! A special lunch menu will be available for food. It’s going to “slay!” Get your tickets on our website. This is Masseria Frattasi Coda di Volpe (name means fox tail, a reference to the shape of the grape clusters) from Beneventano IGT in Campania. The grapes come from centuries-old vines (prephylloxera) grown in the hills of Cirignano and are native to the Campania region. This wine is flinty and mineral with white plum. A must try for fans of Italian whites.

The Levet family farms a tiny 3.5 hectares on steep slopes in the town of Ampuis in the Cote Rotie. They make animalistic, herbaceous, aromatic Syrah, built to age. The wines are some of the finest Syrah France has to offer. Stop in and grab a bottle before they are gone again till next year.

Next week we will learn about and taste some wines from Slovenia!

The Rodica Family Organic Winery is located in the heart of Slovenian Istria, in the village of Truške near Marezige above Koper. The winery is located on the top of the hill and offers magnificent views over the Gulf of Trieste and the unspoiled nature of the Dragonja river valley. Covering the area of 15 hectares, the farm grows 60,000 vines of mostly autochthonous (indigenous) varieties, such as Refosco, Malvasia, and Yellow Muscat, as well as others, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Pinot Gris. Grape production is carried out following the rules of organic farming, based on management in harmony with nature.

We love to expand our horizons and try new things. It’s especially fun when the wines are this easy to drink. See you next week, link to tickets in the bio!

Francois and Pascal Cotat make what is arguably the best wine in Sancerre. The steep, south facing slopes of “Les Mont Damnes” in Chavignol (the greatest cru of Sancerre) provide the perfect spot for luscious, flinty, and beautiful Sauvignon Blanc. These wines are made in tiny quantities and won’t last long. Stop in and check out these wines!

Dirupi is the project of Davide Fasolini and Pierpaolo Di Franco, who, since 2004 have worked tirelessly, farming their high-altitude vineyards in the sub-alpine region of Valtellina, Lombardia, which is known for lighter-bodied expressions of Nebbiolo, known locally as Chiavannesca. Translating to cliffs or crags, the Dirupi winery is named for the steepness of their 4.5 hectares of vineyards. These terraced vineyards are supported by rock walls erected over a thousand years ago, pieces of which routinely fall and need to be rebuilt by hand, which Fasolini and Di Franco consider one of the privileges of working these old sites. The partners started learning about winemaking in Valtellina, where they grew up and where harvest is a community activity. They became fascinated by farming and harvest, gaining conviction about how ripeness is essential to a great wine. “If the wine is green at harvest, it will taste green forever.” Perfect ripening at these extreme altitudes requires careful planting, pruning, and growing. This respect for the vines and land is further evidenced by the organic practices that Fasolini and Di Franco insist on using whenever possible. The Dirupi winery is located in a building in the center of the town of Ponte di Valtellina, which dates back to the sixteenth century. Grab a bottle or two today!

The wines of Cara Sur consist of of old vine, high altitude, traditional Argentinian grape varietials, made by a duo of couples from the area. They produce small quantities with minimal intervention. Hard work in the vineyard means less work in the winery. The vineyard sits alongside the Los Patos River on stony soil at 1500 meters above sea level. These are unique wines with a sense of place.

Try the Moscatel Tinto, old vine, whole cluster, aged eight months on lees in a concrete egg. Earthy aromatics, red fruit, and rustic tannins. Perfect for charcuterie!

Cantina Cavallotto produces firm, classic Barolo. Their Barolo bottlings have long maceration and traditional long maturation periods in Slavonin-oak casks. These wines are meant to age and become powerful and majestic.
The entry level wines are just as enjoyable and affordable. The Freisa tastes of cherries and blackberries with gritty soft tannins. The Pinner is a white wine made from Pinot Noir. Mineral with tropical fruits, this wine was meant for a hearty pork dish, which we happen to have at Le Bouillon.
Come on in and grab a bottle or two or three.
