It’s time to introduce you to the band’s lead singer and guitar player, Kim Fox!
Originally from the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York, Kim Fox has been playing bluegrass music for most of her life. She, along with brother, Joel and sister, Barb were the core members of 3 Fox Drive (formerly known as The Fox Family), a band that enjoyed playing throughout North America and Europe. Kim captivates listeners with her strong and expressive voice as well as her from-the-heart original songs. She has previously recorded two albums with The Fox Family on Sierra Records, Follow My Lead and When It Comes To Blues (featuring the #1 self-penned national Bluegrass single, “The Dream”). 3 Fox Drive signed with Koch Records of Nashville in 2006 and released “Listen To the Music”, a project containing 7 of Kim’s original songs. Their collaborative project, "Christmas Grass Volume 3" was released by Koch Records in 2007 and featured 3 Fox Drive along with award winning artists John Cowan, Larry Sparks, Sarah Jarosz, Sony Isaacs and Russell Moore. Kim's song, "Watching Over the Soldiers At Christmas" features a recitation of the Pledge of Alliegience by Charlie Daniels.
Upon the dissolution of 3 Fox Drive, Kim began performing with 6-Time IBMA Female Vocalist of the Year recipient, Dale Ann Bradley. After playing on and off with Dale Ann over the past 10 years, Kim decided it was time to revisit having her own band and has teamed up with her brother, Joel Fox to form "The Kim Fox Band".
Kim's accolades include International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) awards for her part on the Rebel Records recording, Follow Me Back To The Fold (2001 Recorded Event of the Year) and the 2006 Album of the Year, "Celebration of Life: Musicians Against Childhood Cancer". She is also a former winner of the Chris Austin Songwriting Contest hosted by Merlefest.
In 1990, Kim began producing and promoting The Fox Family Bluegrass Festival which would continue for 18 years. This 4-day, multi-stage festival would become one of the premiere music festivals in the state of New York. Because of her experience with this festival, she was tapped by the International Bluegrass Association to produce their 3-Day, indoor festival known as “Fan Fest”. It was during that time that Kim founded IBMA’s Kids on Bluegrass program. This program brought extremely talented kids together to learn how to produce, emcee and perform bluegrass music. Many of these kids went on to become professional musicians (including our own Jonah Horton!!) and if you ask Kim, Kids on Bluegrass is her greatest accomplishment.
When Kim moved to Nashville in 1998 she was mentored by songwriting legend, Larry Cordle. In 2002 she was signed as a writer for Little Shop of Morgan Music, owned by grammy winning songwriter, Dennis Morgan. While she has had many songs recorded by fellow bluegrass artists, Kim's song, "Nothing To Lose" has been recorded by two of country music's greatest female artists, Trisha Yearwood ("Greatest Hits"- 2007) and Reba McEntire ("Keep On Loving You"- 2009).
Kim is excited about this new musical chapter. She cannot wait to record new songs and share them with all the friends and fans of bluegrass she has met along the way.
