Today is my 70th Birthday, and what a wonderful journey it has been thus far! I am blessed beyond measure to be in good health, and to have had a relationship with God since I was 8 years old, guiding me through the decades. I have a fabulous husband who has been my best friend for many years, who supports me in everything I do. He even wears purple every day as I do! 💜
Last week we celebrated our 15th Anniversary of our PURPLEologist store. I get asked the question often "when are you going to RETIRE"? My response is quick: "NEVER...God willing!" My To-Do-List of all the things I aspire to accomplish is always being added to. I always have Goals and Dreams, so I tell myself that I can't get OLD even if I am turning 70! One of my favorite quotes that is at the top of my Goals list is from Albert Einstein: "Do not grow OLD, no matter how long you live." That is why every day I work on designing and creating new products for our store. I am always trying to learn something new. I get to travel all over the country to trade shows, in search of purple items or to meet vendors who can help me create what I am looking for. Almost every show I attend, I will walk an average of 15-20 miles a day, so when I say I get to "Shop Til' You Drop" it is literal!
I passionately love everything about our store, but the best part has been all the fabulous relationships that have been formed with employees, vendors and customers. We have thousands of PURPLE LOVERS out there that all have their own story to tell about their love of purple, and I never get tired of hearing them.
You can only imagine the eyebrows raised when I started telling friends and family 16 years ago that I was going to start a business and ONLY sell everything PURPLE! Oh, I heard the whispers under their breath..."good luck with that", or "I will give it a year". I tell all the young people I can who come through our store, to "think outside the box and create a job for yourself that you can feel passionate about, and you will find it to be true that you won't WORK a day in your life!"
A couple of days ago I watched the Odometer on my PURPLE 2008 Sebring Convertible change from 49999 miles to 50000 miles! I was so excited that I was turning 70 and my car was turning 50000 miles! I had been told that my 2008 Sebring had a life expectancy of 250,000 miles, so I did the math. I figure if the 1st 50,000 miles took me 16 years and I am today celebrating 70 years old, another 16 years per 50,000 miles I will be 134 years old when my car expires! So, I fully intend to embrace turning 70 today, and can promise you will see me wearing purple and driving my purple car for years to come, God willing.
