In just an hour she’ll guide you through 4 different countries that have taken the concept of the French Bordeaux Blend and have really made it their own: Chile, California, New Zealand, and South Africa. Come sip on 4 delicious bold reds and learn about the grapes that go into Bordeaux Blends and what makes each of these countries so well-suited to producing this style of wine!

We especially want to draw attention to our annual “Drink Pink & Red” Open House Tasting, where we’ll be pouring fifteen red and rosé wines for a great cause: Norfolk CASA, a vital organization that provides advocates for children in the foster care system. We’ll be selling raffle tickets throughout the month for $5 with all proceeds benefitting Norfolk CASA. Additionally, 10% of all ticket and wine sales from the open house tasting will be donated to this worthy cause.

Did you have a chance to meet Ioannis G. Tsapos (Yanni for short) March 2023 for our Greek Wine Masterclass? If not, you’re in for a treat since he is coming back to Norfolk this weekend just for our event! Yanni is the owner of Dionysos Imports- from whom we get virtually all of our Greek wine selections. We can’t wait to host him again this month as we discover and taste through boutique producers that Yanni has brought into the US.

A little bit about Yanni...
From a blue collar suburb West of Athens, his first job was working with his dad who owned a small cleaning supply distribution company. His main love growing up was basketball and he made the Greek national team for high school players. He quit the basketball team to move to the U.S. to get his master’s in computer science at American University and worked for NASA and NOAA after graduating. Talk about a smart guy! His favorite food is a dish his mom would make him only after he would win his basketball games: minced meat with tomato sauce and fries. Otherwise she kept him on a “ strict Greek mother” diet and so he always had extra incentive to win his games.

Come meet Yanni this Saturday and hear all about the producers that he personally knows and supports by importing their wines to the United Sates. Yanni has singlehandedly changed the Greek wine market here on the East Coast and is a wealth of knowledge. Don’t miss out!

Kiera’s Blind Tasting classes are all about making YOU a better taster and sharpening your analytical skills as they apply to wine—her newest sessions take that to the next level with a specific focus on assessing quality when all you have in front of you is an unmarked glass of red or white wine!

So starting this Saturday, January 11, put on your thinking caps and join Kiera in the classroom for “Blind Tasting: $25 or $50, can you tell the difference?”

🎊 Happy New Year! 🎊

A new year means an exciting new lineup of classes & events, and you can now browse everything we have going on in January on our website and page!

At Vino Culture we are all about fostering the next generation of wine professionals, and we’re thrilled to announce that not only will Maegan be teaching her first 2-hour class on the wines of Rioja, but Mia will be teaching her debut Quick Sip class on Bordeaux Blends from around the world too! 🌎 Be sure to get those reservations in and support our amazing part-time ladies as they take the next steps in their wine journeys!

🤓 Starting 1/11: It’s amazing how much you learn in a blind tasting class, especially with Kiera at the helm! This month she’ll be focusing on blind tasting for quality—when presented with two wines, can you tell which is the more expensive one?

🇬🇷 1/18: Finally rescheduled from a few months ago, we are so pumped to have Ioannis G. Tsapos, the owner of Dionysos Imports, back in Hampton Roads for our Greek Wine Open House Tasting! 🇮🇹 1/30: Our favorite Italian, Marco Martire, is back in the classroom showcasing one of the most recent additions to his portfolio: Azidenda Agricola Casaretti from Bardolino!

🎉🥂 Happy Birthday Ryn!!! 🥳🎈
When Ryn first started working at Vino Culture I was blown away by her innate talents. She had the ability to learn something new and not only retain that information but reframe it in a way that makes it accessible to others in a way like I’ve never seen before! Her palate is impeccable too and it’s been awesome to see her develop such a strong identity in wine. Plus, she fixes all my typos and has even started making some dad jokes of her own these days which of course makes my heart happy 😂 I am so lucky to get to work with her everyday!
But more than all of that, Ryn is just a kick ass human! Her passion, and curiosity for the world around her brings joy to everyone in her life. She is going big places in her life and we are just thrilled to be part of one of those chapters.
We wish you the happiest of birthdays, Ryn and hope this next year brings loads of new adventures for you- you deserve it! ❤️

NEW Tasting Table announcement, because ‘tis the season to treat the wine lover(s) in your life!! 💚🎁💚

Over the next three weeks leading up to Christmas, we would like to treat our amazing Tribe of Wine Nerds at the shop by opening some killer wines!

👉 How it works: Each Thursday, join Ryn in the shop for a 2oz tasting of one of our over $75 bottles. This is the perfect opportunity if you’re interested in learning more about some of the wine world’s iconic regions & noteworthy wines in a fun & casual setting … but with a little more depth of information than our regular tasting tables.

🗓️ Thursday 12/5, 12/12, and 12/19

⏰ 4-6pm and open house style, but once we’ve gone through the bottle that’s it for the night!

🍷 A 2oz pour of a red, white, or sparkling wine. The tasting price will change depending on the bottle.

🍾 Come in for the tasting and get 10% off any of our over $75 bottles!

For our first session THIS Thursday, Ryn will be pouring Domaine Tempier’s “Lulu & Lucien” Bandol Rouge 2022 ($80) from France! The price to taste this gorgeous Mourvèdre-dominant blend will be $8/person.

🤓 Beaujolais Nouveau: the lightest & juiciest expression of the Gamay grape made using the process of carbonic maceration. It’s bottled just a few weeks after harvest! About 1/3 of all Beaujolais is Beaujolais Nouveau.
