This shop has so much history, and luckily we have a really sweet friend that comes into the shop to share more.
For those of you that don't know, the shop originally was a doctor's office. That place has seen it all! Dr. Curtis opened the doctor's office in 1919 and then Dr. Tankard took over after being a surgeon in WW2. There they did stitches, X-rays, births, and everything in between. These supplies were originally in the doctor's office and Dr Tankard's son, Fred Tankard, donated them. Fred shared that his dad brought over an old WW2 X-ray machine that was placed where the bathrooms now are. The stories he has told me demonstrate how much love has been poured into those walls. Dr. Tankard and Dr. Curtis were so important to Hilton. We've had a few people come into the shop and say the various medical attention they had received from these two awesome people.
I really feel so honored to have this shop. This place is so special. I'll share more stories that Fred has shared with me. He says that, "Pop would be proud" and that really means everything.

Mixed cultures means our dough. We love this slightly sour dough of ours. And the starter has pieces of all of our favorite places through our relationship: PA, NC, CA, and now VA.

This weekend is the last of our Turbo Man Doll - chicken tikki masala with mozzarella, feta, and a Greek yogurt drizzle with dill and parsley.
Update. Yeah, they just boxed in a mostly empty safe. There was a receipt in there, but not much else. Not even a bad joke like I had hoped for.
Well, at least it's out of the shop! Now we have room to dance! But also, it's out front of the building so please someone go grab it and make it into something cool. Especially before Monday because we have 66 packages of our equipment arriving (not a joke at all).
