Today, in , we’re discussing 'Temptation, Sin, and Guilt' (1999–2000), a triptych inspired by one of the frescoes adorning part of the Sistine Chapel’s vault, painted by Michelangelo between 1508 and 1512.

The piece simultaneously depicts two scenes from Genesis 3:1–13 and 22–24. On the far left, Adam and Eve are shown accepting the forbidden fruit, while on the opposite end, they are seen leaving the garden, threatened by the flaming sword wielded by the dual-faced serpent. Much like Michelangelo—who was, above all, a sculptor—Gabarron prioritizes the human figure over the landscape. His work reflects a deeply humanist and anthropocentric vision, which permeates the composition. His signature black lines define contours, profiles, and spaces, giving the scene a sense of volume and shaping the figures with movement. This dynamism, combined with the symbolic use of color, creates an ephemeral corporeality within an imagined space.

The canvas is filled with amorphous beings, part of the artist’s own bestiary, emerging beyond mere physical representation to personify the hopes, fears, sins, anxieties, and doubts of men and women stepping into the new millennium.

This week, we had the pleasure of welcoming Eduardo Chillida Belzunce and Susana Alvarez to the Cristobal Gabarron Museum for a preparatory visit ahead of his upcoming exhibition.

The son of renowned sculptor Eduardo Chillida, Belzunce grew up surrounded by art. From an early age, he showed a keen interest in sculpture and painting, developing his own unique style over the years. His career has led him to work with materials such as stone, bronze, and terracotta, always with a personal and sensitive approach to form and space.

During his visit, we exchanged ideas and finalized details for his exhibition, which we are certain will be an unmissable event.

Today in , we're featuring 'Encuentro 92', a large-scale mural created by Cristobal Gabarron for the 1992 Universal Exposition in Seville.

Covering over 700 m² across 14 panels, the mural was installed on both the interior and exterior walls of the Plaza de América building. Through vibrant colors and dynamic forms, it depicts the encounter of cultures and their evolution throughout history.

Beyond its artistic impact, 'Encuentro 92' stands out for its message of integration and coexistence, inviting reflection on the past, present, and future of humanity.

These days, we are in the midst of setting up the upcoming exhibition at the Cristobal Gabarron Museum alongside artist Miguel Angel Ruiz. GRAVITIES will open on February 15th at 12 PM, inviting us to explore the dialogue between graffiti and traditional sculpture, blending the spontaneity of urban art with the monumentality of the Mediterranean.

Inspired by the history and landscapes of places like the ruins of Syracuse, the Riace Bronzes, the Monreale Cathedral, and the various Mediterranean ports where history and art coexist, Ruiz transforms graffiti strokes into sculptural forms that engage in a dialogue between past and present, tradition and modernity.

Today in , and to mark the beginning of the almond blossom season, we look back at the first edition of the 'Ambit' project with 'Flowers Against Bombs'. This piece launched the project in 2022 during the blooming season in Mula, where a total of eight creators—Cristobal Gabarron, Carlos Aganzo, Manuela Salvado, Raul de Tapia, Joaquin Araujo, Juan Jesus Yelo, Jose Joaquin Aroca Amoros, and Damian Lajara—carried out spontaneous artistic interventions in an action painting that merged with performance and happening elements.

This piece is part of the 'Ambit' project, which brings together a collaborative work shaped by the interaction of intellectuals, writers, artists, researchers, thinkers, naturalists, biologists, journalists, and activists.

Gabarron used color and movement to capture the beauty and texture of the blossom in this live artwork, created before the eyes of the audience. Nature has long been a source of inspiration for artists, and this creation is a perfect example of how its beauty can be translated into art. On the canvas, Gabarron conveyed the emotions of that habitat, the energy of all the participants, and the essence of that specific moment—while also expressing his concern for the environment and the war that had begun in Ukraine just 36 hours earlier.

Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 12:30 PM, the Cristobal Gabarron Museum will inaugurate 'GRAVITIES', the latest project by artist Miguel Angel Ruiz, which fuses urban art with traditional sculpture.

🗓️ February 15, 2025, at 12:30 PM
📍 Galleries 1 and 2, Cristibal Gabarron Museum, Mula (Murcia, Spain)

The exhibition invites us to reflect on the identity and rebellious spirit inherent to urban art, taking it beyond the walls to embody it in pieces rich with symbolism and meaning. 'GRAVITIES' is a dialogue between the fleeting nature of graffiti and the permanence of sculpture, between the past and the present, exploring how art can connect different times and languages.

Miguel Angel Ruiz, a Fine Arts graduate with over 30 years of experience, is renowned for works such as 'Plane Crash' or 'Fountain', celebrated for their ability to transform public spaces into places of reflection. In 'GRAVITIES', the artist draws inspiration from the First Maritime Route of the Maltese Way, a journey that took him to iconic Mediterranean sites such as Syracuse, the Riace Bronzes, and Monreale Cathedral. These influences are reflected in sculptures that translate the spontaneous gesture of graffiti into a new three-dimensional context where modernity and tradition meet.

The exhibition will remain open to the public until April 20, 2025.

We look forward to welcoming you!

Today in , we’re talking about 'Kronos', a monumental sculpture created by Cristobal Gabarron in 2005. This piece, crafted using mixed media with polychrome fiberglass, measures 610 × 130 × 110 cm (approximately 20 × 4.3 × 3.6 feet) and has traveled the world, leaving its mark in various exhibitions.

Kronos was first unveiled in Salamanca, Spain, as part of the city’s celebration as a European Capital of Culture. Later, in 2014, the piece was exhibited alongside 'Mysteries of Columbus' at the 3rd edition of the Shanghai Jing'an International Sculpture Project (JISP) in China. This event brought together international artists, with Cristobal Gabarron standing out as the only Spanish participant. 'Kronos' was displayed in front of the China Art Museum in Shanghai, solidifying its presence on the international art scene.
