Emilio Bulfon Cianorie 2022
The Emilio Bulfon winery is located at the foothills of the province of Pordenone on a partly hilly surface consisting of 15.90 hectares, 11 of them devoted to the cultivation of native Friulan recovered varieties including Ucelut, Piculit Neri, Sciaglin, Forgiarin, Cividin, Cianorie and Cordenossa. Since 2006 the winery, also qualified by ERSA as Educational Farm, promotes not only the wines, but also the rich heritage of history and art of the territory. It is no coincidence that the logo of the winery and the wines labels have been inspired by a detail of a medieval fresco, that can be admired in the Church of Santa Maria dei Battuti di Valeriano. The 2022 Cianore is fresh and fun with notes of red currant, herbs, minerals and rose petal and can be served with a slight chill.
Franco Terpin Quinto Quarto Sivi 2023
Situated in the hills bordering Italy and Slovenia, Franco Terpin produces some of the most outstanding skin contact wines coming out of Italy. He makes his wines in a beautiful, rustic fashion-unfined and unfiltered, leaving them cloudy and complex. The grapes for Quinto Quarto are hand-harvested from a single vineyard in the Monte Calvario at 150m above sea level, planted on a soil locally called “Ponka”, clay-filled marl which was originally part of the Eocene sea bed. The 2023 Quinto Quarto is juicy and complex, with notes of blood orange, eucalyptus, cherry, flowers and a hint of anise.
Barolo Chinato Cocchi
Barolo Chinato is an aromatized wine produced with Barolo DOCG, enriched with cinchona calisaya bark, rhubarb, gentian root and cardamom seed whose active principles are extracted with a slow maceration at room temperature. It was created in 1891 by Giulio Cocchi, a young and creative pastry chef from Florence, where he worked in a popular bar located in Piazza del Duomo. In the late nineteenth century he moved to Asti, a small but lively town in northwest Italy, not far from Torino, and established himself as a distiller and winemaker. His Barolo Chinato, Aperitivo Americano and vermouths became well known during the Belle Epoque and the Italian Futurist period. By 1913 there were twelve Cocchi tasting Bars in Piemonte. Today the winery maintains its artisan character and follows Giulio’s original recipes to craft the distinctive wines that have made Cocchi a cult name worldwide. Barolo Chintano possesses the definition necessary to be an ideal digestif or paired with dark chocolate. Serve as you would a high-quality port or Madeira, or use in lieu of sweet red vermouth in a luxurious Manhattan.
