A natural offspring of Touriga Nacional and Marufo, is the most widely planted grape in Douro, Portugal, accounting for a fifth of the total vine area. Despite its abundance, Touriga Franca is less popular than Touriga Nacional, and is often blended alongside Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo) and Touriga Nacional. Fantastic as a rosé, red, sparkling, or fortified wine, Touriga Franca displays notes of blackberry, pomegranate, crushed rose petals, and pink peppercorn.
