Here is the vintage report we just received.
2024 Vintage Overview
At the beginning of 2024, the vines awoke early from their winter rest. Winegrowers observed a very early budburst, as early as March 31 ! However, a long spell of cold and rain set in during the
Spring, delaying the vine's vegetative cycle. This was the 4th wettest Spring since 1959, with 10 to 15 days of rain above seasonal norms. While this has the beneficial effect of recharging the soil with water, it also accentuates fungal diseases such as mildew and black rot. As a result, winegrowers have to redouble their efforts in the rows to preserve the vines. Flowering starts in the first week of June and lasts 10 to 12 days, depending on the precocity of the vineyard. Coulure and millerandage were then observed, and we knew from then on that the harvest would not be generous. Two hailstorms successively affected the northern Beaujolais Crus and part of the Beaujolais-Villages. The rain continued until mid-July. However, the winegrowers kept their
spirits high. Véraison began in early August, a hot, dry month. Harvesting finally began on September 6, a week later than the 2023 vintage. The weather during the harvest was mild, with stable temperatures and a northerly wind, allowing the grapes to concentrate. Winegrowers who were patient and took the risk of waiting a few days before harvesting were rewarded with perfectly ripe grapes. 20,000 people from all over Europe took part in the harvest. The Gamay grapes are still harvested mainly by hand, to obtain whole bunches for the Beaujolais vinification process, also known as Semi-Carbonic.
Denis Lapalu, Cellar master at Georges Duboeuf since
2003: “The harvest lasted three weeks. We were a little worried
about the quality of the raw material, but the month of
September, which was rather mild overall, gave us the extra
ripeness we needed to make this 2024 vintage a great success.
Open and continuous fermentations facilitated our work. We
had to be vigilant about maceration time and racking, to obtain
precise wines with refined tannins. 100% of our Beaujolais
Nouveaux are vinified in whole bunches, in a typically Beaujolais
style”.
Emeric Gaucher, Oenologist at Georges Duboeuf since 2018. “The vintage offered us a wide range of expressions. Each cuvée reflects the origins of its terroir. There's no sunshine effect, when the grapes' great ripeness smoothes out the particularities of each A.O.P., as we experienced with the 2022 and, to a lesser extent, 2023 vintages. This year, we need to be even more careful with our
supplies, and as always, work on our blends to achieve the
right balance. Les Nouveaux are soft, with aromas of
raspberry, redcurrant and grapefruit”.
Beaujolais Nouveau : Brilliant deep ruby color. Charming, with fragrances of red berries enhanced by splendid freshness. Balanced and energetic on the palate, this wine is fullbodied and crisp
