Our Story

Mile post 9 3/4 off the bypass in the OBX Plaza Shopping Center. 101 W Lake Drive, Kill Devil Hills.

Now you know where we are let me tell you about who we are. Right now it’s just me, Jay McLure. I’ve been working in Old Time Photos since 1988. I worked in Virginia Beach and ran the studios there. I just happened to be in OBX last September on a surf and camping trip and stopped by the new shop and introduced myself to the owner, Cindi Harrell. She was excited and showed me all around because the shop had just moved to a brand new building and she was very proud of the sets she and her husband Jeff had built. I dropped the hint that I was looking to open my own shop one day or buy one that was already set up. Three months later I get a call from Cindi offering to sell me her shop because her husband took a job in Virginia. So I said yes. I moved to the Outer Banks and they moved to Virginia. It was a bit of a transition going from managing 2 shops that do 4 photos at at time with a staff of 30 to being the only staff member with one camera and one set of lights, but I’m enjoying having all the creative control and meeting lots of new people. Remember, if you’re having fun, you must be doing it right.
