The Montrose Police Department is requesting the public's assistance in identifying the individuals in the images attached.

On May 17, 2024, at approximately 11:40 am, the male suspect entered The Liquor Store, located at 1601 Oxbow Drive #300, and made several failed credit card transactions. The male suspect was able to complete a fraudulent credit card transaction in excess of $3,000.00, of items. Later in the day at approximately 7:47 pm, the same male suspect entered Palace Liquor, located at 2229 South Townsend Avenue, with a second male suspect. These two male suspects stole a bottle of alcohol valued at over $600.00. Photos of two male subjects are attached to this post.

Today we mourn the passing of a truly remarkable woman. Born in Czechoslovakia, Madeline Albright grew up and went to high school in Colorado. She went on to serve as Ambassador to the United Nations and later as Secretary of State where she helped strive for peace in the former Yugoslavia and reinforced our commitment to NATO.

During this month celebrating women, we want to share a look at two inspiring wildlife officers.

In 1898, Annie Metcalf made state history when she became Colorado’s first female game warden. Metcalf was just 26 years old and was patrolling remote Colorado wilderness on horseback, a gun at her side, arresting violators of game laws and confronting dangerous wildlife. She was described as "exceedingly well qualified" for her position.

Fast-forward to 1974 when Susan Smith became Colorado’s first modern female wildlife officer. Smith found herself competing with 209 trainees for just 12 available openings. She was successful and was appointed to the Vail district in 1974. It was not an easy path for Smith, according to then-DOW Director Perry Olson. In a 1990 article about female wildlife officers, Olson acknowledged that some of Smith’s peers did not immediately accept her as a wildlife officer.

But Olson commented in the same article that Smith and the women who followed her into the agency proved the skeptics wrong.
