It is very sad to post this, but we wanted all of our Facebook friends and family to know.
Obituary of Roy Lee Mills
Roy was born on November 22nd 1931 at Saint Anthony hospital in downtown Oklahoma City OK. Roy passed away on December 20th 2024 in his home in Oklahoma City OK.
Roy was called home to be with our heavenly father after living a full and wonderful life on God’s beautiful earth. Roy began his life in Oklahoma City, but the family soon moved to the hills of Arkansas to the small town of Waldron. This is where Roy enjoyed all the freedom that a small town and a farm life could offer
Roy was a boy scout obtaining the rank of eagle scout and was a star player on the high school basketball team for all four years of high school in Waldron AR. Roy loved to take apart and fix things, especially radios and TV’s. At the age of 14 he built his first amateur radio; took the test to be a ham operator; and has enjoyed ham radio ever since. His call sign was W50XX and made contacts on all 7 continents and more friends for life.
Roy met his high school sweetheart, Ruby, in Mr. Bough’s Spanish class. Roy was 17 and Ruby was 15. They were married on August 5th, 1950. At that time Roy and Ruby returned to Oklahoma City and the University of Oklahoma to attend college. Roy worked at Tinker Air Force Base while attending all of his engineering college classes. Applying his electrical engineering degree to good use, he worked with the federal government for 20 years at Tinker and FAA. After retiring from those jobs, he joined General Electric company and worked another 22 years retiring in 2001. After retiring from General Electric he went about doing other projects. He developed land and built houses, including one special home in the Burning Oaks development. In 2000 he completed the big house with lots of wood flooring so that all the dogs that Roy and Ruby rescued could live.
Roy became a born again Christian at the age of 15 and was very active in spreading the gospel and working for God. He sang in the choir, he taught GA’s, and was a Deacon in his church. His final years were spent worshiping with Soldier Creek Baptist church in Midwest City OK.
Roy is preceded in death by his mother, Mabel C Mills, father Cecil A Mills, his brothers Jim and Lee Mills and his sister, Willadean Harris. He leaves behind his wife, Ruby, of 74 years of marriage, and daughter Brenda K Mills Hyde and her husband Douglas Hyde, and his son Roy D Mills. He leaves behind 7 grandchildren and 6 Great grandchildren.
