Books just received. The children's book is about Jimmy Winkfield, who won two Kentucky Derby's in a row in 1901 and 1902 and came in second in 1903. "Wink" after a long career in racing retired to France but was invited to a Kentucky Derby banquet in 1961. When he arrived with his daughter they were not allowed to enter through the front door. Once inside they were met with additional prejudice: "nobody would speak to us except another jockey who attended." He returned to Europe and never came to the US again.
