Lesson for budding somms over a cup of coffee. "Deciphering a Typical French Label": The PLACE is most important - here, sourced from near the village of BUSSIERES in the MACONNAIS region (Macon-Bussieres / Appellation Macon-Villages). In this case a 1.8 acre vineyard at the foot of a mountain known as le MONSARD. The French insist you know that Macon Whites are Chardonnay, hence no mention of grape variety. Out of respect for place, the winery name is not emphasized: "Les Heritieres du Comte Lafon" (Heirs of Count Lafon). The Propietor's office (and winery) is located in an area between the villages of Milly and Lamartine - in (southern) Burgundy. Absent from the label bc "of course we are!" - Certified Organic & Biodynamic. Now you know a little more. It's what we do. PS, this Chardonnay arrives today - $40

Opus One has released their allocation of 2021 vintage and you'll see it 'out there' at about $450-460 per bottle. We received our six-pack today and four remain. If you think you'll need a bottle for your collection or a gift - whether you buy it up here or somewhere else - my recommendation is to grab it before mid-December.

We just drew names for 2024's final raffle for the opportunity to purchase, at not-jacked-up-prices, the rare whiskies allocated to us. We have about 30 bottles total. In November and December, the products go on the shelf at super-jacked-up prices. The raffle program resumes in late January. 'Thank you' to everyone who's participated this year.

Under Ottoman rule, wine-making in Georgia was forbidden. During Soviet annexation, it was controlled to produce sweet swill barely distinguishable from cough syrup. During this current period of relative liberation, 8,000 year old traditions are being revived. Lost Eden is made of the (red) Saperavi grape; fermented underground in large amphora-like vessels called Qvervi. It's very good. $22.99

It's back. We'd never sold so much of any wine in any period as we did of this California Cabernet during a span of 2020-22. Then supply and pricing issues resulted in a hiatus which all resolved this month. We've got it back in and expecting Twenty Acres to resume the store's top ranking in the near future. $15.99. Outstanding value.
