There’s a theory that while grows some of the best Riesling in California, it is also cursed by a Goblin who was mistakenly wrapped amidst the original pile of German cuttings destined for California.

Disgruntled by those who steal his Riesling treasures each vintage, he creates obstacles for those who interfere. Persistent cold wind? Goblin. Frost? Goblin. Flat tire on the way to the pick? Goblin.

Sadly, the Goblin has won his fight. The 2015 vintage marks the end of our relationship with this unique, cold, sandy site that sits near the town of Los Alamos. A decision to pick the grapes slightly riper proved to be successful resulting in an abundantly expressive wine. The wine reveals new layers of complexity each time we pop a bottle and will continue to surprise with additional extended time in bottle. Even after 7 years it has maintained a lean, angular, and mischievous character with an unmistakable petrol, candied citrus and marzipan aroma.

Bottled unfined and unfiltered. As with all Forlorn Hope wines, nothing was added to the must or wine (no cultured yeast, ML bacteria, water, tartaric acid, enzymes, nutrients, etc)

This project is very near and dear to our hearts✨✨We’re committed to stocking Alice’s recipes throughout the year—and as long as we’re around—for you to enjoy with family and friends🌟 Introducing TAKJU 16, their signature brew & the ideal introduction to traditionally made Korean makgeolli. Inspired by family homebrew recipes, the TAKJU 16 is coarsely filtered, near-dry, and undiluted with an alcohol by volume at 16%.

This wine is most well known for its creamy body and full spectrum of flavors from a wild fermented brew, starting with the extremely floral almost melon-like character of fermented rice, followed by the brightness of our wild yeast that is perfectly balanced with the naturally occurring lactic acid and rice sediment.

TAKJU 16 is a samyangju (3 stage fermented alcohol) made exclusively with organic medium grain white rice, organic sweet (glutinous) white rice, nuruk (traditional Korean wild fermentation starter), and filtered NY water. Fermented to near dryness over 4 weeks and bottle conditioned to achieve fine bubbles that elevate the intricate flavors of the wine. Try it this weekend with delicious bowls 🍜🍜

We’re thrilled to announce @sueproblema as our special guest artist for Record Fest next week! We were introduced to her via a SoundCloud upload back in 2016 called DIVAS- an all vinyl collection of 80’s boogie divas 🪩 Since then we’ve been fans of other mixes highlighting: Jazz, Mutant Disco and Cumbia. Artist Spotlight: Sue Problema was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. Her obsession with collecting vinyl began in high school and evolved from punk rock to funk, electro, freestyle, international, post punk, mutant disco, boogie, and cumbia. She spent 11 years in the Bay Area and was one of the original members of the Chulita Vinyl Club Bay Area chapter. She’s had the pleasure of playing records all over the world - from LA, CA to Tokyo, Japan.
