If you buy a tequila from Mexico, but it is not from Jalisco or the limited municipalities in the states of Guanajuato, Michoacán, Nayarit & Tamaulipas...then it is not legally tequila.
Agave is grown in India, South America & South Africa. And can be distilled anywhere in the world. It may be an agave spirit! But it would be illegal to export with the label "tequila"
