To all our customers,
Many questions and concerns have been voiced lately regarding our gas at the Cedar Country Store.
For a long time, our gas has been known to be of good quality and without any issues. Recently that was questioned, and we did everything we could to ensure the gas did not have any issues such as water in it. We repeatedly tested it in the tank and 24/7 electronically monitored it.
However, on April 2, 2024, during a very heavy rainstorm a few very good customers had issues with their vehicles running after getting gas. Luckily unlike the concern in March we were notified within an hour of the gas purchase so we could get a sample from the pump which this time did test positive for water. However, when we tested the gas in the tank it showed zero water. This was hard to understand and is the reason it has taken over a week to get answers.
Our usual pump repair company did come out the next day and spent 2 hours but were unsuccessful in determining what was going on. So, we had to wait for a different company to be able to perform more complex tests on our tank and line to the pumps. Luckily our tank and pipeline tested good without any leaks. This was great news but still didn’t answer how this could happen. The 2 companies continued to work together to find an answer.
After much detective work, a very small fitting on the top of the motor for the pump inside the tank did not seem to be tightening down onto the motor completely. This could allow a small amount of water during a very heavy rain to run down the pipe and be deposited at the mouth of the pump where the gas is pulled from the tank. Since the water was immediately pulled from the tank it was near impossible to detect it. This was still a very strange thing to have happen and when combined with the very slight backwards slope of the underground tank, all the testing performed did not show any water in our fuel.
So, yes, a very small amount of water did get into my fuel. The water has been removed and the fitting on the pump motor has been replaced. We also raised our in-tank pump to compensate for the slight backward slope. Our tank, line and fuel have all been confirmed to be without issue and in good working condition. Once again, we can pump gas at CCS.
I want to thank all our loyal customers who have stuck with us and defended us against all the negative comments. We love knowing that you have our backs and my decision to share all these details is in the hope that our customers will realize that we have their backs too. We have demonstrated that we will go to great (and very expensive) lengths to ensure you only get good quality fuel, food, and service from all of us at the Cedar Country Store.
Sincerely,
The Bousselot Family and CCS Staff
