We’re still here, I’m still here! Thank you so so much for your kindness about our next chapter. We’ll be open regular hours this week, then who knows? Even though we’re downsizing, it won’t be cheap, so come get all the stuff out of here! Right now our remaining t-shirts and sweatshirts are limited to the XL and below range, but once we’re back online it’ll be a return to inclusivity city. We also just received a large shipment of toilet paper, so…

It’s true, the shop is closing. We’ve been pretty open about our struggles with low foot traffic, and it turns out our lease is up sooner than we thought. But this isn’t the end of Cry Baby. Far from it!
You may be asking yourself where you’ll get eyeball dryer balls now. Or what will happen to all of your unfinished commissions? What about the sweatshirts?

Two very cool things are happening that will allow us to grow, change, and give you the embroidery and weird little items you’ve come to expect from Cry Baby.1. Our website really is coming soon! Now that we know what the future holds for the business, it will be easier to launch, curate, and operate it. It’s already built, there’s just (obviously) a lot going on behind the scenes.

2. Cry Baby is moving into a studio. This means hours and hours of uninterrupted embroidery time, filling orders and completing commissions efficiently, and regular open studio hours and walk-in flash days. It also means pop-ups! We already have the new location secured, and it’s just as conveniently located as the shop. You’ve probably already been there. You’re going to love it.

A few things to note!
- Gift cards are still valid, and will continue to be redeemable on our website and at our new studio.
- Commissions are still in progress. You may be picking them up at the new location, which is about two neighborhoods over. - We are still open regular hours this week. Next week is a maybe. Come buy all the stuff so I don’t have to move it!

THANK YOU for two amazing years in the shop. So many people have walked in as customers and walked out as friends. Everyone who stepped through the door meant something to me, and I’ll forever be grateful to all of you for your support. You changed my life and I love you dearly. -Shawn

The other day I wanted to draw an amphora for a sweatshirt, and ended up with a new friend. I don’t share a lot of process stuff, because when I’m making things I forget content exists, but this little guy has already taken a lot of forms in its short life. Even my therapist loves it. Maybe it will become a sticker soon.

Speaking of what’s next, going to drop a little announcement on you tomorrow. Plans! Suspense! Intrigue! New reason to check phone! 👀

Here’s a sweatshirt I stitched up. It’s a vintage XL. I spend a lot of time answering sweatshirt inquiries via DM, and I think I’ve only ever sold one that way. I am so flattered that people want stuff I make, but please remember that I make these with my hands and they are priced accordingly. If these things were cheap it would be a disservice to my very cool and talented stitching peers. Besides, impulse buying clothing is so 2010s. In 2025, we adopt sweatshirts and care for them like show dogs. Ok that’s extreme, but we do keep them out of the dryer.

The shop is open Thursday thru Monday and we’ve got some new cuteness coming in, if we can appease the mail gods.

We sent a few sweatshirts to new homes this weekend (shoutout to le****ns, you are so cool), so I’m working on a few more. In the meantime, our walk-in flash sheet is just a few finishing touches from being done. You can build your own custom tattoo sweatshirt or jacket over time. Just like a human body.

We’ve received a lot of great warming station donations. Our neighbors are grateful, and it’s nice to be able to send folks out with warming supplies for their peers, too.

Cry Baby could really use your support in the coming week. We have not yet made rent this month, and our electric bill probably looks like most people’s this time of year. I don’t draw a paycheck, so almost every penny you spend here ends up on the shelves or on bills. Next month is our two year anniversary and the beginning of the final year of our lease. What happens next is up to you! We love it here and want to hang around for a while. CB gift cards to yourself also help keep us going! Then you’ll always have a little treat for later. Thanks for getting us this far. ❤️

Howdy! Cry Baby will reopen on SATURDAY. Between weather-related shipment delays, being sick during my break, and tearing apart and reorganizing the shop, I need a couple more days. So we’ll see you then! Bring your favorite denim jacket and get something off our neeeew flash sheet.

Throwing this on the grid because you liked it so much in my stories. This was probably my favorite thing I stitched in 2024. It took a lot of hours and I thought it was terrible until it was finished. I’m hoping to challenge myself similarly in 2025. Maybe I’ll get weirder. Is that even possible? Let’s find out.

Today is the day! Cry Baby is open 12-5 today, Monday, December 23rd. Be like one of those shoppers in the song and then you can rush home with your treasures. We’ll likely be closed next week for a little reset. That will include a website relaunch, so stay tuned! In the meantime, electronic gift cards are always available and can be used on said future website.

This truly has been a wonderful holiday season, and I’m so grateful for each and every one of you that supported Cry Baby. Greetings! Not only is it shopping season, it’s also shivering season. Brrrrr! One of the great joys of small business ownership for me (hi, Shawn here) is connecting with the people in my neighborhood. Cry Baby welcomes our houseless neighbors, even on days when the shop is closed to the public. I’ve been fortunate enough to build some deep bonds with these folks, and knowing them has enriched my life greatly. They crack me up, cheer me on, and often keep me company on slow days when I’m not sure what the future holds for the shop. It’s not always easy to meet the needs of this population, but it is necessary, and you can help!
