A Tribute to Mapaseka (Maps) Litabe: A Bright Light Extinguished Too Soon
Yesterday, I received the devastating news of Maps Litabe’s passing. It’s a heartbreaking reminder that life is precious and unpredictable.
I first met Maps two years ago when she reached out, inspired by my work in the wine industry. Her enthusiasm was infectious, and I was immediately drawn to her determination. We talked about a path for her to transition from pharmaceutical sales into the world of wine. Maps was smart and already accomplished so I had no doubt she could transition successfully.
Maps became a force to be reckoned with. She enrolled in and graduated from the honours BCS wine biotechnology program at Stellenbosch University.
I was honored when she invited me to speak to her classmates about my wine journey and witness her dedication firsthand.
Maps became a prominent figure in the wine industry, and even launched her own business, The Wine Hut. Her passion, drive, and infectious energy were truly inspiring.
I’ll always remember her infectious smile, her unwavering determination, and her incredible spirit. Maps leaves behind a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire others.
Let’s honor her memory by living life to the fullest, seizing every opportunity, and never letting age or limitations hold us back. Rest in peace, Maps. You will be deeply missed.
Thrilled Announcement! ✈️🇿🇦

Part Two: (Full video on my YouTube @winewithtuanni)
Vusi Dalicuba, Vergenoegd Löw’s winemaker, aims to be the best in South Africa and the world. He joined the estate in 2021 and is excited to be part of its growth. Vusi was recommended by Abrie Beeslaar at Kanonkop and quickly impressed with his hard work and attention to detail. He describes himself as a “chemist” when it comes to winemaking and felt immense pressure during his first harvest. Vusi’s favorite part of the job is seeing the plants grow and tasting the final product. He treats all his wines equally but notes that the red wines and chardonnay are particularly special due to the farm’s unique soil.

Cognac Dreams with my Twin Flame at Lheraud! 🇫🇷✨
Had the most incredible day in Cognac with my partner-in-wine, Chinedu!
We rolled in style from Angouleme’s train station and got whisked away (VIP style!) to the stunning Lheraud estate (pronounced Lee-Row!). This family-owned vineyard is a dream, and we were warmly welcomed by the father-son duo, Gui and Laurent.
Laurent led us on the most fascinating tour, giving us a peek behind the scenes of their meticulous production process. The dedication and care the Lheraud team puts into every bottle is truly inspiring!
Lheraud cognac is all about heritage (founded in 1970!), quality grapes (sourced from the prestigious Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne regions), and exceptional taste (think rich, complex flavors with hints of fruit, spice, and wood).
As a budding cognac enthusiast, I was particularly excited to discover their impressive collection of vintage releases! Let’s just say I won’t be leaving empty-handed - 1972 and 1971 Lheraud are coming home with me!

Dinner at Frida’s: A Night of Delicious Discoveries in Bordeaux 🇫🇷
Frida continued to impress! Last night, I snagged a bar seat (best in the house!) and was treated like royalty by the handsome duo Gregory and David.
Started with a cognac cocktail (divine!) and Before even reading the options I decided on the Tasting Menu:
First course: fresh oysters paired with a delightful French Champagne - perfect harmony!
Next up was a Loire Valley Chenin Blanc. A bit lighter in fruit flavors than expected, but it danced beautifully with the feta (fried, and ridiculously good!), and the unexpected (but delicious!) burrata with strawberries, lima beans, and mint. (Seriously, eat your lima beans!)
The fish course was melt-in-your-mouth perfection, perfectly complemented by Nielluccio, a light red wine from Corsica. Then came the star of the show: creamy, funky (in the best cheesy way) risotto with perfectly grilled zucchini.
The meat course was bursting with flavor, tender and satisfying.
Before dessert I took a bathroom and selfie break (essential for these long, delicious meals!)
Dessert was a stunning two-act affair: black sesame seed on a lemon biscuit with raspberry sorbet, followed by a light, heavenly chocolate mousse.
Gregory made me a “French” Espresso Martini: Made with Cognac, a perfect dessert pairing and pick-me-up cocktail!
Feeling like royalty! David offered me a post dinner glass of cognac. A perfect ending to a truly unforgettable meal.
Thank you, @frida.restaurant , for such a warm welcome to Bordeaux. I’m already dreaming of my next visit! #GratefulFoodie #BordeauxLove #VIPTreatment #FrenchHospitality #BordeauxEats #TastingMenu #FrenchWine
Hidden Gem Alert! #NotSoTouristy
Touched down in Bordeaux. Took a walk through the city looking for a chill place for wine.
I popped into a cute shop and asked the worker where to find “good vibes, a killer glass of wine, and no tourists.” This place, Frida, was her recommendation, and it’s already stolen my heart!
They’re blasting hip-hop and Afrobeat in the kitchen - gotta be a good sign, right?
Just booked my dinner rez - their soulful vibes are already calling my name! Plus, the small but mighty wine list has me intrigued.
Sipping on a 2016 Mondot Saint-Émilion - dark, just ripe fruit explosion, bold and playful tannins, and a touch of acidity that makes me hungry (dang it!). This beauty could easily age another 5 years!
Stay tuned for the food deets... #SupportLocal #WineDiscovery #FoodieAdventures #bordeauxliving #redwine
Starting a new series, Tasting With T. I will post wine education videos each week. This is the first , “How to Taste Wine Properly”
I visited Culture Wine Bar in Cape Town, South Africa.
Culture Wine Bar is one of my favorite places, it located in the city center on Bree street
Bree street is where wine lives in Cape Town Its easy to find a wine vibe.
Culture is the perfect place for wine lovers and winemakers to connect.
I was invited by Chris and Andrea Mullineux for a vertical tasting of their Mullineux Signature wines .
It was a tutored tasting hosted by Andrea and Chris personally.
In all transparency I am a fan of the Mullineuxs. I appreciate the care they give to the land and most importantly the people that work for them. They are holistically sustainable and it shows in their wines
It was interesting to learn what makes Swartland, the region where most Mullinuex grapes are grown so special.
Swartland is a relatively dry, warm and sunny climate. We also learned what unique characteristics each year delivered to the unique characteristics of the wines, from the drought in 2016 to the relatively wet 2013…. I tasted “Vintage” in these South African wines.
We started with the Old Vine White wines, Chenin Blanc at the very center of each vintage. Some years have verdello, semillon or viognier blended in
We tasted the 2013, 2018, and the 2022
It is home to old vine Chenin Blanc and Semmillon. I could literally taste the sunshine in these white wines from Mullineux The wines were light with a textured richness at the same time.
Next we tasted the Mullineux Syrah
Vintages 2011, 2016, 2020
Their red wines are remarkably known for both gentle perfume aromas and gentle tannins.
Each vintage tasted uniquely different. What stood out the most was the 2011. The fruit remained fresh and the acidity still racy after over 10 years in the bottle
The last group of wines we tasted were the infamous Mullineux straw wines. These wines were sweet, complex and lively acidity.
100% Chein Blanc the grapes are harvested late in the season, dried on straw mats, pressed then aged in oak ba
