Rum Fruit Cakes by the Slice
👵🏾 Inspired by Corrine’s Grandmas Black Cake
Rich, moist, boozy, tons of flavor, and so very pretty. Corrine brought samples to our most recent Nourished Book Club gathering, and they were gone before I could take a picture!
She also shared how she grew up making Black Cake with her Grandma as it’s a tradition across the Caribbean, including Jamaica where her family has roots. Her Grandma decided to change it up a bit, and made her unique version. When Corrine was an adult, and her Grandma had passed, she decided to re-create it. And in true Grandma style … this beloved recipe wasn’t written down.
So Corrine drew on her childhood memory, her Dad’s memory, and Diasporic stories and recipes to make a cake similar to her Grandmas. And then she realized … change was part of the spirit of her Grandma’s Black Cake, of Diaspora and of tradition… and so this offering includes Corrine’s baking genius 🤩💫
