Shoutout to Hector Juarez, the Produce Manager at our Caldwell Store, for participating in Melissa's Produce cooking contest! Hector wowed everyone with his creation, "The Texas Hatchman Vegan Burger," 🍔🌱, showcasing his passion for plant-based cooking and creativity in the kitchen.
"The Texas Hatchman Vegan Burger features completely vegan patties made from a variety of recipes I’ve developed over the past few years. I only use plant-based ingredients, including chickpeas, tofu, black beans, mushrooms, and many other fresh vegetables. To create the cheese, I used carrots and potatoes. I paired the dish with homemade potato fries, onion rings, fried sliced mushrooms, and fried breaded Hatch skins. I only used three pieces of real bacon for my wife.
It was time-consuming. I spent six hours preparing everything from scratch, including fresh pico and guacamole. I brought burgers for my coworkers to try, as they sample any new recipes I come up with. It was a lot of fun, and I’m already thinking about new ideas for next year. Sometimes, in the middle of the night, I come up with ideas and text it to myself so I don’t forget," said Hector.
