Wine of the Week!
The Valley Sauvignon Blanc

The beautiful Elgin Valley is a cool climate, high inland plateau, surrounded by mountains. Just 43 miles from Cape Town, South Africa, the valley is rapidly gaining a reputation for producing premium quality wines. Most of the grape vines are 9-15 years old, making it a very young wine region. Apples and pears still account for 80% of the agricultural planting in the Elgin Valley.

The range of wines is designed to be fresh, pure, fruit driven, light and accessible with all the fundamentals of premium wine whilst still showcasing the unique profile from the Elgin Valley.

For “The Valley” Sauvignon Blanc, spontaneous fermentation is allowed to start and finish the fermentation process, to preserve the unique terroir. This wine tastes very fresh with ripe figs, gooseberries, grassy notes, and a clean dry finish.

Wine of the Week!
Hedges C.M.S. Red

Hedges Family Wines was started by husband and wife, Tom Hedges from Richland, Washington and Annie-Marie from Champagne, France in 1976. Their wine adventure began with shipping wine abroad but in 1989, they bought 50 acres on Red Mountain in Yakima Valley, 40 of which they devoted to Bordeaux varieties. Within a year their Cabernet and Merlot blend won a gold medal. They began distributing in North America and by ’96 one of their red blends made the top 100 list from Wine Spectator magazine. In 2008 the Hedges Estate vineyard converted to Biodynamic farming and by 2019 all five vineyards had been converted. Their accolades have continued to grow as has the prestige of the Red Mountain AVA.

The C.M.S. Red ’21, comprised of 67% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 3% Syrah, is made by 2nd generation head winemaker Sarah Hedges Goedhart. Light red raspberry, wild blackberry, dried cherries, semi-sweet chocolate, dried herbs, dusty earth with touches of cinnamon and vanilla bean.

We love Hedges reds here at Bevy’s because, though the palate has plush dark fruits, there is also enough earthiness and acidity to keep the taste balanced and not too jammy. This is also an outstanding value, come try a bottle and you will be back for more!

Wine of the Week!

Our Wine of the Week, Birdhorse Valdiguié, comes to us from a duo in California that work exclusively with lesser-known varietals to create incredibly unique wines. Much like the name Birdhorse, their wines are intended to evoke a sense of adventure and whimsey, yet remaining rooted in the familiar. Both partners work for incredible wineries (Scribe and Bedrock), so we are fortunate to see this project of their own in the Colorado market.

Valdiguié is a red wine grape grown primarily in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of southern France, and often is compared to Gamay. Until the late 1990's it was often referred to as 'Napa Gamay' in California, until genetic tests revealed it to be Valdiguié . We love this particular version from 40-year-old Suisun Valley vines, as it is perfect for these hotter summer days when you want to chill your red wine just a bit. Loads of bright fruit with big red cherries and plums. A medium bodied wine, with just enough tannin to be taken seriously. We think just about anyone that likes red wine will enjoy this bottle, regardless of their normal preferences.
