October 1st - with their Owner and Founder 🇲🇽🌵 This ultra premium additive free tequila is the top selling tequila in Duty Free shops around the world and is now available in the U.S.! We were seriously impressed with their process, quality, and story. This is not one to miss for agave fans.

October 8th - 🥃 We were 1 of 3 stores to have the opportunity to pick a single barrel of their Barrel Proof Bourbon. This is something we’ve been wanting to do for quite some time, patrons at the event will have the first opportunity to taste and purchase.

We hosted a very fun private blind tasting last night with The Lake County Whiskey Club! Thanks to all the members who joined us. This was our second “Mystery Theme” blind where guests not only tried to guess the pours but also the theme, which seems to be a big hit. We had a few groups come very close and one group guess correctly that it was single barrels vs blends from the same distillery in each round!

Round 1 - Maker’s Wood Finishing release 1 of 5 Virgin Toasted French Oak defeats their Maker’s French Toast Spice pick, 24 to 22. A very fun side by side and close battle of two similar and phenomenal pours.

Round 2 - Russel’s Reserve Single Barrel defeats Wild Turkey Rare Breed, 28 to 18. Again, most tables claimed they could have gone either way and wouldn’t mind drinking either one, but the complexity on the Russel’s notched it out.

Round 3 - Our recent K**b Creek barrel pick with LCWC defeats Bookers 2024-02, 30 votes to 16! The K**b Creek was just more balanced, complex, and flavorful when tasted next to the Bookers. Attendees at the tasting nearly wiped us out of this K**b Creek pick, so be sure to grab one of the last few remaining bottles ASAP if you’d like one!

Why do we love blind tastings so much? Because we love providing you with options that are available and just as good (if not better) than harder to find bottles. Let’s be clear, we’re not saying Bookers is bad or not worth drinking, we will always pour 6 bottles we think are great when we do blinds… but here’s an option 2 out of 3 whiskey drinkers prefer that’s similar, less expensive, and available.

🔥🦅 Barrel Pick Release 🦅🔥

10 Year Armagnac Finish MGP Bourbon in collaboration with

Only 18 bottles remaining as the club took the rest. This was the first barrel we tasted on our first visit to Dark Arts. We stopped by to check things out and didn’t plan on doing a pick that day, but what a welcoming we got. With this whiskey in our glasses, the room got quiet for a few minutes and then we all realized we were doing a barrel pick that day.

Finished for a year in a 1980’s Armagnac cask, this 10+ Year MGP Bourbon is deep, rich, complex, and lively. It’s a pour you need some time for. The complexity builds and builds with each sip and minute that goes by with its lingering finish. No flavors overpower each other and at its 110.2 cask strength proof point is as delicate as it can be. Ultimately this drinks like a well aged Bourbon with lots of vanilla, caramel, oak, and a gentle spice. There’s also flavor notes and complexity similar to a lively vintage Armagnac which make you think this could be well over 10 years old.

A month after picking this barrel, Dark Arts 10 Year Armagnac cask was named top 5 in San Francisco Spirit Competitions Special Barrel-Finish category. We’re sorry there isn’t more to go around but we hope those who do grab a bottle thoroughly savor and enjoy it. We have 2 bottles aside for the bar and the bar is now open for the day. Cheers! 🔥🥃🎉

What a great change of pace last night! put on an incredible masterclass. Wilderness Trail Barrel Proof Wheated Bourbon Single Barrel 🥃

Distilled by Wilderness Trail with a Sweet Mash of 64% Corn, 24% Wheat, and 12% Malted Barley using FP1 Yeast. Aged 5 Years and 4 Months in an Independent Stave Company Classic #4 charred and lightly toasted new oak barrel. Selected by Gold Eagle and bottled at a barrel proof of 112.5

Nose: Sweet with black cherry, caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, leather, cedar, and oak.
Taste: Dark chocolate covered cherry, toffee, vanilla, butterscotch, brown sugar, toasted oak. The flavors mesh together so well, this is an incredibly balanced bourbon and it drinks much lower than its 112.5 proof point.
Finish: Dried oak and pepper with a subtle brown sugar sweetness linger for a long time. You can pleasantly taste this pour for minutes after your last sip.

Since being taken over by Campari, Wilderness Trail single barrels were paused and then went on allocation, only 9 Wheated barrels are coming to Illinois this year. This has always been one of our favorite values and pours so we had to jump on the offer to select one. It’s great to see this program come back to life.

Despite only being 5 years, this barrel is definitely ready and from our point of view, Wilderness Trail tastes better for its price at this age range than their older stocks we’ve gotten to try. Their sweet mash, science with their yeast, extended air drying and toasting of their barrels can be credited for that.

🦅🔥 Barrel Pick Release 🔥🦅

Peerless Barrel Proof Single Barrel Rye, Custom Barrel Aged Cigar, and Barrel Aged coffee.

This is a collaboration unlike anything else. First we picked a single barrel of Rye with , then we shipped that barrel to to age a custom cigar, lastly we had age raw coffee beans before roasting.

The Rye | $109.99
Peerless does an incredible job monitoring every single barrel and picking the best of the best to go into their single barrel program. They always slip a distillery picked barrel into our set of samples and once again we picked it.

It’s 6 years old and bottled at a barrel proof of 113.7, named “Don’t be Unique, Be Good”. All the samples were incredible and we debated over a few “unique” barrels during this pick but ultimately decided to go with the most on-profile but best overall.

This is a rye for anyone who likes whiskey. When you find a good single barrel of Peerless Rye it’s rich, full bodied, and shares a lot of the decadent sweeter notes that you’d find in bourbon with added layers of flavor and complexity. This bottle is very bold, sweet and fruity up front and then some subtle spice and earthiness kicks in. It showcases and beautifully marries flavors normally found separately in rye and bourbon. The mid palate and finish both linger for a long while and it tastes much lower than its 113.7 proof

The Cigar | $11.99
Robusto with a Maduro wrapper. Long leaf Nicaraguan and Dominican blend with an Ecuadorian binder. Aged 7 weeks then each individual cigar was packaged in a glass tube with actual char from the Rye barrel to continue the aging.

The Coffee | $19.99
Brazil origin, aged 3 weeks raw in the barrel after the ci**rs to pick up whiskey and to***co aromas, then roasted to perfection.

We just wrapped up two incredible nights of Masterclasses 🦅🔥

Big thanks to all who joined us and Dark Arts founder and Chief Alchemist for an amazing presentation and lineup of whiskey 🥃🎉

There truly is something for everyone in this lineup and the three barrel blends on the core SKU’s keep every batch unique and worth trying. The room was evenly split both nights on what people’s favorite pour of the core lineup was.

“Single Barrel Cigar Co. was founded in 2021 in Ybor City, FL aka Cigar City, with the goal to create a new premium cigar that pairs the amazing tasting notes of Whiskey with high-end to***co. After more than a year of experimenting with different to***co blends, bourbons and aging processes, a new amazing cigar was finally brought to market.

What makes Single Barrel Ci**rs unique is our aging process and patent-pending packaging. We start out by aging our premium ci**rs in freshly dumped premium bourbon barrels for 8 to 10 weeks. This creates an all-natural infusiion process into the to***co that gives our ci**rs a subtle sweetness and smooth finish with notes of sweet bourbon.

Due to climate, humidity and other factors no two batches of ci**rs come out the same just as you find with single barrel bourbons. 🔥🦅 Barrel Pick Release 🦅🔥

K**b Creek 9 Year Single Barrel Bourbon in collaboration with Lake County Whiskey Club! Barreled on 10/6/2014 and selected on 2/12/2024 before being bottled at 120 proof 🥃🔥

Probably our favorite Bourbon to consistently pick and in our eyes one of the best values out there for Bourbon. A few members of LCWC said it definitely reminds them more of Booker’s than K**b Creek and we’d have to agree. This single barrel is very lively and full of dark fruits without a ton of the nuttiness you’d typically find in K**b Creek. Think black cherry, cherrywood oak spice, sweet corn, crème brûlée, and a very slight hint of peanut. It’s mild for its 120 proof but definitely doesn’t lack flavor or a finish.

The club took half of the bottles so we have 80 available to sell. Those are now available online or in-store for $64.99 while supplies last and we will have this on the bar tomorrow when that opens back up for the week. We’ll update this post whenever it sells out. At our masterclass a few months back we tried their American Whiskey bottled 3-4 years ago next to their American Whiskey bottled recently. We found the quality improvement to what they are bottling today was significant.

Fortunately and unfortunately for smaller brands, many people try them in their early stages and if they aren’t a fan, they don’t follow the journey. But the smaller guys are the ones making all the tweaks and figuring it out along the way.

This got us thinking… What distilleries should people revisit if they haven’t tried in a few years?

On this week’s episode of we discuss our top 3 distilleries who we think have made significant improvements over the past 5 years. These are distilleries we think are absolutely worth revisiting if you’ve written them off or didn’t think you were a fan in the past.
