How Does A Gas Pump Skimmer Work?

How a Gas Pump Skimmer Works. Essentially, the perpetrator opens a pump using one of a few master keys, and plugs in the skimmer. This reportedly takes less than 30 seconds. When a credit or debit card is swiped through a skimmer, the device captures and stores all the details stored in the card's magnetic stripe. The thief then either returns to retrieve this information from the pump or in updated models they can use bluetooth technology to connect to that device and steal your card info.

AT OUR STATION, WE HAVE INSTALLED NEW LOCKS TO REPLACE THE UNIVERSAL LOCKS USED ON ALL GAS PUMPS. THESE LOCKS HELP PROTECT YOU FROM THE POTENTIAL PLANTING OF THESE SKIMMER DEVICES. WE ALSO REGULARLY CHECK OUR PUMPS AND APPLY "WE CARE" STICKERS TO ENSURE THE PUMPS HAVE NOT BEEN TAMPERED WITH. IF YOU EVER SEE ONE OF THESE STICKERS TORN, PLEASE NOTIFY OUR STAFF.
