Flume Squared is a double IPA from Battery Steele. “‘Flume Squared’ takes our regular Flume DIPA recipe to the next level. We started with a new blend of yeast and dry hopped this beer with Citra and Mosaic as we normally would. Then we finished it off with a heaping pile of Citra Cryo pellets. Expect a supple, pillowy mouthfeel dripping with flavors of papaya, tangerine, lychee and dank hop resin.”

Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Erle is an alder wood smoked Schwarzbier. “Schwarzbier has been around since at least the 16th century and was once more widespread than it is today. During the Industrial Revolution in the 19th century it was almost replaced by mass-produced lighter beers. Only a few breweries have preserved the beer style, and it has been experiencing a renaissance for around 30 years.

We use a very special smoked malt for our Aecht Schlenkerla Erle black beer. This is not dried over a beech wood fire as usual, but over an alder wood fire. The alder smoked malt brings a fine, complex smoky flavor to the beer, which is less strong and spicy than our classic smoked beer. A high proportion of roasted malt ensures a pronounced roasted aroma and the dark, almost black color. At 4.3%, Aecht Schlenkerla Erle has slightly less alcohol, but has a strong taste.”

Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Weichsel is a cherry wood smoked Rotbier - a red lager. “Rotbier (i.e. red lager) used to be common in Franconia. The city of Nuremberg in particular was known for its Rotbier. Since its production was extremely laborious, Rotbier was replaced in the 19th century by Braunbier (i.e. brown lager) which was produced using modern, simpler brewing methods. It was not until 1997 that the beer style was revived.
For Aecht Schlenkerla Weichsel Rotbier, the malt is dried over fire with cherry wood (not over beech wood fire as with classic smoked beer). In contrast to the spicy beech-smoked malt, the cherry wood smoked malt has a fruity, almost sweet smoke aroma and provides a copper-red color in the glass. The aroma hops add berry notes to the multi-layered smoke flavor.”
