LIMITED RELEASE KENTUCKY OWL Maighstir Edition now available in store!

Maighstir is born from a collaboration between Kentucky Owl® Master Blender, John Rhea and Scotch Whisky Master Blender, Maureen Robinson. Maighstir (pronounced May-stir) is a traditional Gaelic word meaning “Master”.

Kentucky Owl® Maighstir Edition has been awarded 96 points by Tasting Panel magazine.

Scent and flavor

Nose
There is a sweet sense of small grains particularly the malted barley, with a hint of sweet caramel. The balance of the small grains (wheat and barley) with the hint of sweet caramel/vanilla, gives the immediate sensation and question in your mind; is this a great bourbon, or is this a great Scotch? Honestly, smelling it will make you feel like you are in a Scotch Whisky warehouse.

Palate
Initially there is sense of warm spicy sweetness from the rye that you might expect from a great bourbon, but then the combination and soft tones from the wheat and barley give a pleasant calming warmness to the tongue. As it melts in the mouth the essence of orange and grapefruit linger behind the soft velvety feel in the mouth.

Finish
In the throat, the soft caramel/vanilla reappears and trails away with a long soft pleasant finish.

Hard Truth Sweet Mash Rye Whiskey is Hard Truth’s debut sweet mash whiskey, a culmination of years of careful planning and precise crafting. The result is a complex, pleasant, quality rye that we’re excited to share with the world. Sweet mash is the distilling process in which each batch of whiskey begins with entirely fresh ingredients. Mash bill one features 94 percent rye and 6 percent malted barley.

Before industrial distillation, America’s original farmers would malt a small portion of their grain to start fermentation, the essential step that turns water and rye into glorious whiskey. As a nod to the farmers, Double Malt Rye is crafted from a mash bill of Rye and Malted Barley. History aside, these grains unite in a show-stopping Rye Whiskey that stretches far and wide across the flavor spectrum. Its base of 91% Rye delivers bold, peppery spice, while 9% Malted Barley adds soft, floral and earthy character.

To take the expansive palate of WhistlePig Double Double Rye even further, this year’s edition undergoes a unique double barrel aging process in American Oak and Pedro Ximenez (PX) Sherry Casks, adding new layers of complexity with each barrel. The result is a masterstroke—a prize pig of a whiskey with warm, sweet notes and a never-ending finish.

For this, our eleventh utterance of the mantra, WhistlePig’s whiskey makers journey to Rajasthan, India - the Land of Kings - in search of precious spices to forge the world’s first Thandai barrel aged Rye. An alluring elixir served in celebration of victory and creation, Thandai joins the shakti of Straight Rye Whiskey with a floral meditation of saffron, cinnamon, cardamom and nutmeg, further enlivened by fennel, poppy and black peppercorn. Jefferson’s Reserve Old Rum Cask Finish has spent many years maturing in American white oak casks before being transferred into specially selected old rum casks that previous held Goslings Family Reserve, awarded the best aged rum in Bermuda.

Extra aging for 15 months in these casks creates a rich and rounded bourbon whiskey; marrying the flavor of an award winning bourbon with the mouth feel, complexity and finish of a reserve quality rum. The result of this marriage will be award winning in its own right.
