The last stop on our tour of to***co growing regions is the United States, more specifically the Connecticut River Valley. The soil in this valley comes from glaciers, creating a distinctly light flavored to***co. Although it's called "Connecticut", the name is more so referring to the variety of to***co than the actual location, as the river flows through other surrounding states. Connecticut shade is known as one of the most sought after wrappers, and the plants grow over 10 feet tall. Connecticut Broadleaf on the other hand is a smaller plant with enormous leaves that lends itself to maduro ci**rs as it is dense and oily.

Ci**rs date all the way back to 2500 BC with the Mayans, who were believed to grow to***co for medicinal purposes. Depictions of what appears to be cigar smoking have been found on art from the time period. ( Cool, huh?) The word “cigar” comes from the Mayan-Indian word for smoking- “sikar”, which became “cigarro” in Spanish.⁠

Christopher Columbus was the first to bring to***co to Europe, where it became a mass market product and grew in popularity.⁠
Factories began to pop up all over Europe and due to regulations and taxes , ci**rs became a luxury product. This created a demand for higher quality products, and the finest to***co was grown in Cuba, which became the largest exporter of ci**rs. ⁠

Manufacturing expanded to nearby countries with similar climates where to***co thrives, as well as all across the United States.⁠
Cigar smoking became popular in the United States around the Civil War, and became a status symbol. Cigar bands were introduced to distinguish brands and prevent counterfeiting, as well as protecting the white gloves worn at the time by men of the upper class.⁠
