After 19 years, Lansing Liquor & Wine is closing. Despite years of steady growth, 2023 and 2024 provided a glimpse of our future, which was not sustainable. There were two major events for Kansas liquor retailers that began the collapse of sales: 1) April 2019, beer sales became legal at grocery stores and convenience stores; 2) December 2022, ma*****na became legal in Missouri. This gave people other place to buy their beer, and other products to consumer (that we could not sell). The increase in liquor sales over COVID probably just masked the whole impact of these changes.

Thank you to our current and past employees, especially Mike and Thomas. We had only two store managers the entire time we were open, which is very rare in retail. These two were the face of the store and largely responsible for its success.
