I have lamented the rising price of quality California Pinot Noir for years now. But when I smelled and tasted Lincourt’s classic Santa Rita Hills Pinot this morning I had a moment of clarity. These wines have gotten so expensive because they’re really freaking good to drink. One quick swirl and sniff had this bright young Pinot singing. Homemade cranberry relish bubbling away on the stove, warm Coke, toasty oak, and tar all wafted gently from the glass, luring me in for a sip. Lively notes of fresh picked strawberries and raspberry puree on the entry slowly darkened a bit as the wine moved from the front of the palate to the back revealing hints of loamy soil, baking spice, blueberry liqueur, and dried orange peel. The finish was playfully light but certainly not thin or wimpy as it lingered between sips.
Velenosi Villa Angela Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi 2023
Reg. $14.99 SALE $9.99
Sale Ends April 20, 2025
Verdicchio is fun stuff to sip! Especially when it’s made like this. The 2023 Velenosi is absolutely bursting with flavor. It’s jam packed with picture perfect Granny Smith apple and Key lime on the entry. There’s some subtle kisses of pulpy pink grapefruit juice and Bartlett pear in the middle of the palate and some very nice minerality lingering on the finish as well. At only 12% alcohol and no residual sugar, this delicious little White is never going to weigh you down. It’s a refreshing aperitif while the kids are hunting easter eggs, a fine foil for fresh fish, and a perfect partner for poultry. Delish!
