Little late night fun with the 204 Ruger and AGM thermal. Dense fog tonight but we still hit everything out to 135 yards. Deadly combo. No water bottles survived lol.
They say the best athletes watch tons of films of their competitors. These boys are no different lol. Decoy dogs always learning. Can’t wait for coyote dogging season!
Time for an update on the new pup. Sly is doing great and turns 4 months on the 19th. He is prey driven and learning common commands quickly. Started him out with a tug rope before introducing a coyote hide. He’s been conditioned with a cap gun and will move to starting pistol then dummy launcher. He’s hell on wheels sometimes but we love him. It’s been a lot of fun learning about decoy dogs for predator hunting. Thankful my wife has been paitent and understanding of the long term goal. She’s probably worked with him more than I lol.
I was deep in the desert early this morning and saw this fire south of Kuna from over 20 miles away. I was relieved to see that homeowners were preparing to leave if needed, and lots of fire crews headed their way. Thank you to all the responders and the firefighter running that dozer. Some video captured from my phone and some from thermal scanner. Cows seemed confident in our first responders. I’m terrible at editing these videos so I apologize for that. Stay safe and keep those fireworks far from our desert.
Learned 4 things today.
1. Love the new Atlas Target Works coyote target
2. My Christensen Arms 22 is shooting very high
3. AR500 targets and 22-250 do not mix well even at 200+ yards
4. Painting the target black and white makes it stand out very well when using a thermal.
I have to wonder what my dog is thinking because this target looks just like him lol. I will make some videos using a thermal and 223 soon. For now, the Sightmark 4K Mini will have to do.
Coyote Fail
Lessons were learned. Broke my number 1 rule to always keep composure. Even when you feel rushed to make the shot after your buddies gun fails to fire. Bet this one was missing a little fur from the front of his chest lol. The Warrior Tripod Hero clamp will allow me to use my Commander tripod for a steady platform. The new 22-250 bolt gun is too heavy for my other tripods.
Jackrabbit
Zero testing Rattler TS35-384 on Fierce 223 at 114 yards. It’s on!
Knocked this one over with the 204 at just over 180 yards. LRF was pointed down but I judged distance by how close he was to the Jeep. He was working to get down wind so I stopped him. Love this AGM Varmint. This was my last time out before the Jeep broke. Thankfully I got it back this afternoon and should be good to go for Thanksgiving. Stay tuned and hopefully we get some great footage.
40 yard view with the AGM Varmint. Still learning the ropes with thermal and calling at night. Not gonna lie it’s super fun once you get past being in the middle of nowhere in total darkness. I can’t wait for some holiday time off so I can get back out there.
