This past Thursday, Marlene and I said goodbye to Sophie, age 14 years. Those of you who ever visited our home, or my office next door in Knoxville, had met Sophie (and Scout or Rosie, too!). Some of you who may have also lost a beloved pet know the profound sadness of such a loss.

In our case, Sophie was with us constantly, and even more so after we lost Scout in July of '23. From the quick trip to get our Wawa coffee to the 10 hour jaunts to return to Knoxville, she was ready and willing to join us, accepting my helping lift to get her into the car, but always the perfect companionable traveler.

If you knew Sophie, you knew her gentle, friendly spirit. Never, ever judgemental, she was a particular favorite of many of our nearby homeless neighbors in downtown Knoxville, always taking time to sit down next to anyone who extended a hand to pat her head.

We miss her very much...

As a follow up tp Tony Lawson's heartfelt tribute to our mutual friend, Marie Cirillo, here are some images of this remarkable woman.

Through life we sometimes have the good fortune to meet someone who really does make a difference in our world. Marie Cirillo was one of those rare persons. Marlene and I are honored to have called her a friend.

We had the good fortune to host a couple of fundraiser house concerts at our home in Knoxville for her Clearfork Community Institute in Eagan, TN, the most memorable of which was an evening featuring the wondrous, and sadly recently past, Malcolm Holcombe.

Learn more about Marie. Her story was, and continues to be, quite remarkable and inspirational.

A couple of years ago, through the generosity of Linda Billman & Chas. Manneschmidt, we were fortunate enough to host a house concert featuring Malcom Holcombe, as a fundraiser in support of Clearfork Community Institute, headed at that time by our dear friend, Marie Cirillo.

Needless to say, Malcolm burned the house down! "Unforgettable" doesn't due his performance that evening justice!
