Grab a glass, we have some news.

After nearly a decade of sharing favorite bottles and magical memories with you, I’ll be trading the Catskill mountains for the warmth of south Florida…family calls and a yearning for experimentation is smoldering. I’m excited to start my next chapter down south, and I’d like to share an update on Kingston Wine Co.

KWCo. will be in the extremely talented hands of the crew behind Ollie’s Pizza in High Falls. I’m confident that this group will be tip top stewards — focusing on real wine, a warm welcome and putting their souls into the shop you’ve helped build.

When I made the difficult but necessary decision to begin the process of finding a new owner for the shop, I sought out the crew behind Ollie’s - husband and wife duo Sophie Peltzer-Rollo and Innis Lawrence along with their best friend and partner Ilan Bachrach - knowing they have a natural sense of warm hospitality, a love of food and wine, and a vision of bringing thoughtful community-minded businesses to upstate New York that was very much aligned with my own inspiration.

In just about a week, you’ll see new owner Sophie at the shop. Welcome her! She is smart and humble and I promise you, she will make you feel at home. I look forward to seeing this little shop continue to bring natural, organic and biodynamic goodies to you for many years to come with her at the helm. And if you haven’t already been served meatballs and broccolini at her restaurant Ollie’s, go now!

SO! Thank YOU for following along for nearly a decade as we’ve taken risks — filling up all the shelves in a tiny waterfront town 2 hours from the city with funky and ‘flawed’ and beautiful wine. Your kindness, graciousness and loyalty are forever tattooed on our hearts. Thank you for walking through our doors — they are still open to fulfill all of your fermented dreams.

A new textural orange wine, Brisat, from Penedes is the perfect spring skin-contact wine. The Suriol family has been farming in northern Spain since the 1600’s and converted to fully organic for about 35 years. Their Azimut project allows them to promote other families farming organically in the region. This beauty is spicy and sessionable. A real winner for under $20!

Nadia Verrua's old vine Barbera is the quintessential snow day wine. Full bodied, baritone, rustic and savory. Should pair nicely with a buttery bowl of pasta. La padronina of Cascina Tavijn works her small parcels in an overlooked area of Asti with care, color, and curiosity. Her wines ,for the most part, are vinified in large casks or botti of slavonian oak and this Barbera is aged in Concrete vats...a perfect platform to capture the pure depth and cornucopia of flavors. Nadia strives to add no sulphur if possible. The 2019 is dialed in and superlative. Label designed by the talented .

Four hours northwest from Mexico City lies Querétaro. A wine region far away from the “Goldielocks” zone for growing wine grapes. Querétaro defies old-school notions about this zone and proves that grapes can successfully thrive in unexpected places. Dwarfed in size and fame by the well known Baja peninsula region to the north, this region is known for its sparkling wine. The Sierra Madre Oriental is the central mountain range that fosters this diversity of microclimates hospitable to viticulture. It’s the southern part of a longer spine of mountains that extends farther north up into the Cascades.

Nestled 1,900 meters above sea level is where the mountain Muscat from Tierra del Peña thrives. The altitude fosters cool climate viticulture and vinification. The grapes see warm sun-kissed days contrasted by breezy temperatures at night that slows ripening. This high altitude is an ideal temperature for crisp, mineral wines. Brothers Luis and Roberto Aburto not only make memorable sparkling wine but also manage to tend a working farm with chickens and other crops. This is all within view from the iconic Peña de Bernal rock formation that inspired their name.

“Flow” Pet-Nat is 100% Muscat planted on clay and chalky soils. The native yeast fermentation begins in stainless steel tanks. Then true to classic pet-nat style is bottled with the lees. These active yeasts carry on the fermentation while the bubbles are trapped inside the bottle. No Sulfur added anywhere, anytime. Completely dry but clocks-in at delicate 9% alcohol. Crystalline, juicy and aromatic muscat that tastes like the warm sun it’s grown under.

The illuminating and revelatory Si Rose crafted at Domaine Binner in Alsace was one of our favorite wines this past year. It’s a singular expression of creative, joyful winemaking that yields a piercingly aromatic and quaffable orange wine. The pinot gris and Gewurztraminer are macerated on the skins giving this wine a tactile touch and jaw dropping hue. We have about 10 bottles left in stock at $31.99–and could be a wonderful way to open up your NYE celebrations.
