This 70-hectare estate is run by the Long family in the foothills north of the distinctive Dentelles de Montmirail. Domaine Fond Croze is truly a family business – the third generation now cares for the estate. The average vine age here is 35 years and the Domaine was certified organic in 2009.

A 70-30 blend of Grenache and Syrah, the wine spent 2 years in concrete tank followed by 3-6 months ageing in bottle. No fining agents were used in production. The 2019 Cotes du Rhone Cuvee Confidence is a potentially outstanding effort from this reliable estate. Black cherries lead the way, backed by hints of dark chocolate and raspberries, while the full-bodied palate is round and ripe, yet brought into savory focus by mouthwatering acids and silky tannins.

Located between the foothills of the Cévennes and the Rhône river at an average altitude of nearly 300 meters, the cooperative lies outside the typical division of Northern and Southern Rhône, and can be considered the “Wild West” of the Rhône Valley. The southern latitude allows the grapes to fully ripen, but the unusual freshness of the wines comes from the higher altitude.

This cuvee is mainly crafted from young vines of Grenache Blanc with Viognier and a hint of Marsanne. Pale yellow color with green shades. This is surprisingly light on its feet and refreshing. Delicate notes of white flowers, jasmine, citrus (lemon, tangerine) on the nose. Bright, round and juicy on the palate with notes of apple, white peach and mineral finish. We just love this wine!

Syrah is the rock of this complex blend, bringing weight and color, but in 2019 Grenache also became a star as Joey added more than ever before to lift the floral notes in the nose and bring a bright, garnet hue to the color. Once again Mourvedre was added to bring an earthy, savory aspect to the dance, and, of course, Viognier to keep exotic notes of honeysuckle and tropical fruits in play.

The 2019 Red Wine checks in as 50% Syrah, 35% Grenache, 12% Mourvèdre, and the balance Viognier, all of which was 85% destemmed, and it spent 10 months in neutral oak. Lots of red, blue, and black fruits as well as peppery and spice dominate the nose, and it’s medium to full-bodied, with plenty of fruit, surprising complexity, and good overall freshness. It’s a smoking good red as well as a value. Enjoy bottles over the coming year or three.

The appellation of Jumilla, located about 60 miles inland from the southern mediterranean coast in Murcia, is known for Monastrell (aka Mourvèdre), with over 80% of vineyards planted with it. The continental climate is extreme here: summers are dry and hot with intense sun and winter is long and cold. The vineyards are between 2,000 and 2,800 feet above sea level, planted on sandy and rocky limestone soils that are very poor in nutrients, but have a great capacity to hold what little rain does fall. Monastrell is a thick-skin grape that thrives in the harsh conditions of the climate and terrain, leading to wines with great structure and intense color and aromas.

Explosive aromas of ripe currant, red berries and smoked earth notes. Rich, powerful and voluminous on the palate, with ripe raspberry, smoky cherry, baked plum & a touch of warm white peppery spice. The finish is fleshy & long with a dash of grippy tannins.

Despite having a successful career with Citicorp Investment Services, André Hueston Mack decided to leave his "desk job" to pursue his passion for wine. While working as a sommelier in San Antonio. Mack was awarded the prestigious title of Best Young Sommelier in America. This recognition propelled him into the opportunity to work as a sommelier at Thomas Keller's world-renowned The French Laundry in Yountville, California. Mack went on to accept the position of Head Sommelier at Keller's equally famed Per Se in New York City.

The fruit for this wine comes from Columbia Valley - 60% from the Red Mountain AVA & 40% from the Wahluke Slope. After fermentation the wine spends 10 months aging in barrel, 25% of which is new French oak. 2,500 cases are produced.
In Sheep's Clothing delivers a ripeness of fruit flavors while preserving the acidity that gives the medium to full-bodied wine a sense of freshness. With layers of cassis, blueberries & black cherries, this wine lends to a New World style of fruit with more of an Old World structure with a hint of wood smoke. This wine fully embraces an integral part of classic Cabernet Sauvignon by highlighting a complex blend of dried herbs - anise, thyme and bay leaf.

We were presented with an amazing opporunity on a really great Santa Barbara County Syrah. Before they could even finish, I said, "I will take it all!". We could easily pop this deep & rich Syrah in our email as our first 'pick of the week' of 2022 - would be a heck of a start to the new year.
Then, I quickly realized that they weren't quite yet finished with the offer. There was one catch, I couldn't put the wine in an email, or do any social media posts. It's a long story as to why we were offered this price, feel free to ask. The palate is rich & frothy with flavors of wild berry, cherry, cranberry, blood orange & fresh herbs. There is an intriguing note of salted watermelon on the crisp finish.

Bodegas Breca owns and leases vineyards exclusively of the original clones of Garnacha on the Sierra de Pardos and Sierra de Peña Blanca. These vineyards, planted between 1900 and 1975 are all head trained and dry farmed. Breca, the flagship wine, is produced from a variety of tiny plots, each one of which is only 1.5Ha. on average, because of the mountainous terrain. The vineyards that are used for Breca are planted between 850M and 1,050M above sea level. These altitudes are vital for Breca – they are responsible for 60 degree temperature swings during the growing season. These conditions are perfect for Garnacha, a variety that requires warm conditions to ripen fully due to its long vegetative cycle.

The 2018 is another stunner! Offering up purely fruited aromas of baked raspberries & cherries, spiced meats, a touch of leafy herbs, coffee, pepper & a fine base of soil tones. On the palate, the wine is deep, full in body & robust in personality, with ripe tannins, plenty of spiciness, good soil signature & a long, complex finish.

Vignerons Ardechois is a collective of wine producers and farmers located in the southern Ardeche. The vineyard is located on the terraces overlooking the village of Bourg Saint Andeol and the Rhone Valley. The vines are over 30 years old, delivering low yields and flourishing on limestone-based land, rich in round pebbles.

From a hidden corner of the Rhône Valley, this is from 30+ year old vines, grown on terraced hills west of Montélimar, on stony and sedimentary soils. The grapes are hand-harvested, fermented in cement tanks before being aged in stainless steel. The color is a beautiful cherry tinged ruby which leads to a wafty, high-toned bouquet of crunchy red & blue fruits with a whif of white pepper. A juicy palate reveals dried strawberry, cherry, blueberry compote & leafy, peppered garrigue notes. It is medium bodied with soft tannins & a savory finish. 70% Grenache 30% Syrah.

Since 1350, the Bichot family has called Burgundy home. But, it was in 1831 that Bernard Bichot founded a merchant house bearing his name in Monthélie, a couple of kilometers south of Beaune. At the end of the 19th century, his grandson Albert Bichot took the family business into a new direction and created the winery, Maison Albert Bichot as we know & love it.

This juicy, high-toned Gamay is bursting with fresh, clean fruit. It blends together cranberry, pomegranate, cherry & orange peel into one delicious package. Familie Bauer is a family run operation, run solely by the five Bauers. They sustainably farm seventeen hectares in the Wagram district of Lower Austria (Niederösterreich), where they produce a variety of top shelf wines in addition to their everday liters!

From their main vineyards in lower Austria, the grapes are hand-harvested in early October, vineyard sorted, whole-cluster pressed followed by fermentation in stainless steel with ambient yeasts that last for two weeks and rested on lees until end of November. Aged in stainless steel for three months.

This liter bottle offers up surprisingly sophisticated refreshment, with generous yellow apple notes accented by hints of green pea, spice, preserved orange peel, and white pepper. Complex yet clean: this will satisfy crisp white wine lovers – if you are a fan of Sauvignon Blanc & Pinot Grigio, then you’ll surely fall in love with this too.

Alceo is produced from Tempranillo grapes that have been grown on the Familia Bastida estate vineyards. The soil consists of a mixture of clay and sand with a high concentration of limestone and many small stones. The stones help to retain the moisture in the soil during the long dry summer season. The wine was fermented in stainless-steel tank and aged up to five months in American oak casks prior to bottling.

Classic warm climate Tempranillo, the nose is intense and shows ripe cherry, dried raspberry, plum & a bit of tertiary notes like leather, wild herbs and to***co. The palate is chewy & spicy with tons of elegant red & black fruit, a kiss of smoke & silky smooth tannins.

This deeply colored sparkling red is made from 100% Lambrusco Salamino from 15+ year old organic vines in the hills of Modena. An explosion of purple with beautiful fizzy & frothy freshness! Aromas and flavors of red berries, purple plums, freshly soaked blueberries, elderberries, spearmint and rosemary. Jean-Paul Brun is located in Charnay, a village in the Southern Beaujolais just north of Lyon, in a beautiful area known as the "Terres Dorées" or Region of Golden Stones. Brun is the owner and winemaker at this 60+ hectare family estate. Brun wants to make "old-style" Beaujolais and his vinification differs from the prevailing practices in the region. He believes that the charm of Gamay's fruit is best expressed by the grapes' indigenous yeasts, rather than by adding industrial yeast. Most commercial Beaujolais use a laboratory yeast derived from a tomato base.

Single vineyard Gamay from 20 year old vines, Aged in concrete tanks. It has a remarkable freshness and long finish, with aromas & flavors of wild strawberries, cherries, flowers, and minerals. 'Le Ronsay' has been known to age pretty well if you have the patience, but right now is killer and has a great purity of fruit, boundless energy and vibrancy.

Pedroncelli’s historic Zinfandel vineyards are located on the hillsides surrounding the Dry Creek winery. They are located on the ranch originally purchased by John Pedroncelli Sr. in 1927 and planted to Zinfandel since 1904. The vines are head-pruned and hand-picked, a second-generation vineyard cloned from the original “Mother” vines. The individual blocks were replanted in the early 1980s. The fruit from the remaining 110-year-old vines, although a small part, is included.

Mother Clone is a classic Dry Creek Zinfandel with aromas of ripe raspberries, blackberries and a touch of warm baking spices. This Zin is plump, with brambly berry flavors combined with a touch of black pepper spice, notes of vanilla and toasty oak. The spice-berry dynamic so typical of Dry Creek Zin combines round tannins and a long, toasty oak and spicy finish which are a hallmark of the Pedroncelli style. Enjoy now or cellar for three to five years.

Salad Days Pet Nat is an insanely crushable blend of Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc & Colombard. Why Salad Days? Short answer, because it's flavors are green & fresh. Long answer, at just 9.9% abv, some days, you just need a salad after a weekend of pork stuff, potatoes, pizza & Petite Sirah (or is that just me?). Salad Days is super bright & fresh - on the nose it's all about crisp pear, green apple, lemon & green herbs - the palate is light & refreshing with a soft kiss of Pet Nat bubbles. As a point of reference, if you enjoy bright white wines with lively acidity & some verve, and you trust us - you are going to love this. It's the perfect breakfast, brunch, lunch, aperitif wine.

Le Cigare Blanc is the white analog of Le Cigare Volant, Bonny Doon's flagship wine, named in honor of the cigar shaped alien craft banned by decree of the village council of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. A blend of 46% Grenache Blanc and 34% Vermentino, 20% Clairette Blanche.

Pale, slightly lime-green color with great freshness and a rather bracing acidity and a strong element of “minerality.” Despite its Central Coastal California provenance, the wine really does strongly signify some Mediterranean antecedents - a suggestion of herbal underbrush, sunny, coastal, salt-kissed citrus. The crisp acidity of the wine along with the lemon/lime element, makes it the perfect refreshing accompaniment to any dish that itself would benefit from a slight spritz of citrus.

The J. Denuzière story began in Condrieu in 1876. For several decades, Joanny Paret, the founder of the estate, distributed wines from the area to local restaurants & cafes. Paret wines became Denuzière Wines when Pierre Denuzière took over the estate from his father-in-law in the 1940's. J. Denuzière owns vine plots in Condrieu and Cornas.

The 2017 is a Syrah dominant blend with a splash of Grenache. It offers up purely fruited aromas of baked raspberries and cherries, spiced meats, a touch of dried leafy herbs, coffee, pepper and a fine base of soil notes. On the palate the wine is deep, medium to full-bodied and loaded with personality. The finish shows plenty of ripe tannins, rich & sappy fruits & white pepper notes.

The Santa Rita Hills is a small appellation at the western end of the Santa Ynez Valley that has gained international recognition for its Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The Valley runs west to east, opening a gap in the coastal range allowing the late afternoon ocean fog to roll in where it lingers until early morning. The surrounding hills trap the fog before it is dissipated in the wider Santa Ynez Valley. The fog cools the vines from the day’s summer heat and it is this combination of warm days and cool nights that gives the wine its complexity as well as providing acidity to give it structure along with great aromatics and fruit.

The 2016 Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills is medium ruby-purple with appealing, layered aromas of red licorice, crushed red cherries and cranberries, raspberry preserves, fragrant earth, dried violets and Earl Grey tea leaves. Medium-bodied, it offers great flavor intensity with a grainy frame and very juicy freshness, finishing long with sweet red fruits. Only 2,734 cases produced.

Husband and wife Anders and Mireya Rezabal founded this estate in their native Basque Country, on the coast of northern Spain, in 1996. The couple has some 28 acres of traditionally high-trained vines, planted on slopes which are cooled by breezes from the Cantabrian Sea. Their rose, which is relatively low in alcohol and lightly sparkling, is an 80/20 blend of Hondarrabi Beltza and Hondarrabi Zuri; captivating and fresh, with delicate aromas and flavors.

Pale orange-pink. Bright and focused on the nose, displaying mineral-tinged red berry and citrus zest scents complemented by building floral notes. Dry and slightly fizzy on the palate, showing crisp red currant, strawberry and blood orange flavors that deepen through the back half.

Casal de Ventozela consists of 45 hectares of sustainably farmed vineyards in the heart of the Vinho Verde region. The vines are located in 2 sub-Vale do Ave and Vale do Covado. The estate is a family run business, with a strong focus on the environment and a genuine passion for wine and nature. Vē-Vē (pronounced “vee-vee”) is inspired by what we hope you’ll find inside: Vitality, Vivacity, Verve, and Vibrancy.

Hand-picked, de-stemmed, fermentation in 5000L tanks, on the skins, for about 2 weeks. Left to settle for another 2 weeks then pressed into tank for 3 months on lees, with occasional battonage. Lightly fined and filtered. Minimal SO2. This Orange Vinho Verde is the perfect introduction to the world of orange wine without breaking the bank. The skin contact (contatto) adds a beautiful coppery/rose tint and nuanced flavors of yellow peaches, hints of orange and apricot with a pleasant, salty acidity. Not too funky on the palate, this delicate Vinho Verde would be a refreshing sipper on its own but would also pair wonderfully with vegetable dishes and light fish off the grill.

CVNE (Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España) is one of the most renowned and historic bodegas in all of Spain. Founded in 1879 by the Real de Asúa brothers The winery is situated on top of the hill known as Cerro de la Mesa and commands sweeping views of both the Alavesa vineyards and the town of Logroño, Rioja's commercial center. Vina Real, CVNEs Rioja Alavesa-based winery, released its first vintage in 1920. The Vina Real style is one that showcases the forward fruit of Alavesa while also possessing the structure to age for a decade or more.

Vina Real is comprised of 90% Tempranillo with the balance a mix of Graciano, Garnacha and Mazuelo aged for 13-14 months in French and American oak and an additional two years in bottle. It's subtle, harmonious and serious - clean and with a great balance between ripeness and freshness. This is a benchmark Crianza, with dusty red & black fruits, leather, pipe to***co & spice notes and finishes with some fine tannins.

Château Saint-Roch Côtes du Rhône Rouge is from vineyards just outside the Lirac appellation on the western hillsides of the fault of Roquemaure. They are protected from the prevailing wind by the hills of Saint Géniès, and they benefit from the moderating influence of the Rhône River.

Fragrant and bright, red and black berries on the nose with a splash of leather, violet & spices. There is a rush of baked blackberry & plums with hint of white pepper. The palate starts softly, it is juicy, comes with a textured generosity. This is round, fleshy, dense Côtes du Rhône - the finish takes on a little extra depth from its tannins. It is a perfect expression of its terroir - with a lovely freshness and an elegant finish. This a beautifully made Côtes du Rhône - showing the polish & complexity of wines twice its price.

We will always have a soft spot for Xavier Arnaudin and Union Sacre. He was the last winemaker we had in for a tasting before the world got shut down last year. As a young man Xavier trained to be a boxer in France and then began to train to work the vineyards and harvest in 1997 with Alain Voge. Once he had several harvests and his diploma under his belt, he completed his enology studies and moved to the US. Xavier brings an old world approach to his vineyard management, cellar, and winemaking. He also brings a willingness to be different and the confidence to let his fruit and his wines speak for themselves. He is making very small amounts of unique & delicious wines.

l’Orangerie is named for the seasonal gardens of Versaille where fruiting orange trees are rotating into the springtime and summer sun. Elegant aromas of peach, apricot, blossom, blood orange, honey. Lively acidity and long finish. A beautiful summer crusher - 100% Gewurztraminer, fermented on skins for 40 days, 100% neutral oak for 3 months.

Bernard Baudry is unquestionably one of Chinon’s most outstanding producers. Not only does he have the talent to make delicious and consistent wines, vintage to vintage, but he is also fortunate enough to have vineyard land that showcases many of the varied soil types of the appellation.
This cuvée comes from their highest vineyard, which rests on a plateau of gravel, sand, and limestone, and it is arguably their best entry point into the charm of Loire Valley Cabernet Franc, lithe and less dense than the bottlings from their clay-and-limestone terroirs.

A gorgeous red, savory notes of red berries, to***co, bay leaf & black pepper lead to a delicate, peppery wine with notes of blackberries, currants, and leather underscoring the dark cherry and cola flavors. Beautifully integrated tannins join the fresh acidity and create a solid structure that gives this harmony and promises a long life ahead. Delicious now, but should be even better in a few years. Best from 2021 through 2030.
