We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Stan Bliden, the beloved owner and proprietor of Midway Liquors. Stan cared deeply for his customers and community, dedicating his vision to creating a store that not only served but celebrated the community while showcasing fine products from around the world. Under his leadership, Midway Liquors proudly reached the milestone of being family-owned for 60 years, a testament to his dedication and passion.

Stan’s love for beverages was unparalleled, with a particular appreciation for fine wines, Bourbon, and Rye whiskey. He relished sharing the stories behind great producers and brands and took immense joy in discovering deals he could pass along to his customers.

Above all, Stan was a loyal, kind, and loving husband, father, and grandfather. His positivity, warmth and generosity touched everyone who knew him. Please join us in raising a glass to honor his incredible life, legacy, and the indelible mark he left on Midway Liquors and our community.

Memorial Service will be held at Sol Levinson in Pikesville on Wednesday January 1st at 12pm.

It is delicate and light, with well-balanced acidity, and a long aftertaste.

Fu-Ki Plum wine is an excellent aperitif, as well as a delicious dessert wine. It will also strike a wonderful balance with many rich tasting foods, including Asian specialties.

An International grape, this Cabernet Sauvignon grows in the western side of Sicily where they found ideal weather conditions: warm and windy. Harvested by hand, de-stemmed and macerated at controlled temperature between 24 and 27°C. Aged in stainless steel vats for 6/8 months and stored one month in bottle before being marketed.

The Siema Vineyards family of wines are a celebration of the best and the brightest classic wines from some of our favorite wine estates. Siema staff carefully select an estate that represents the traditional winemaking methods of the region, coupled with the ability to create a wine for the US market that has significant value. Our Cabernet Sauvignon is made by the esteemed Sicilian estate owned by the Alcesti family.

TOP 12 TUESDAY: The 2018 Izadi Rioja Reserva is made with 100% Tempranillo grown in the limestone soils of Rioja Alavesa and aged in French and American oak barrels for 16 months. The red robe of this Rioja is a deep blood red velvet color with a slight purplish rim. It is nicely balanced in the nose with notes of plum, macerated raspberry, along with cherry, violets, anise, cocoa and spice. The Izadi Rioja is much richer than a typical Rioja with bold mouthfeel which fills the palate front to back with ripe red fruits, supple tannins and excellent finish. This is a lovely wine to enjoy with friends and makes for a great pairing with slow roasted pork, rack of lamb or aged charcuterie.

Our newest exclusive store pick is the first of its kind in Maryland.  Elijah Craig Toasted Single Barrel bottled at Barrel Strength.  This one is 9 years old and bottled at 123.4 proof and it is an absolutely stunning pour.  This barrel was Toasted, which means the whiskey from one single barrel was dumped into a freshly toasted barrel and left to age for a few more weeks - adding even more layers of complexity.  It has the signature s’mores aromas with milk chocolate, toasted marshmallow, and graham cracker, with more cinnamon and christmas spices, as well as pomegranate and fig.  The proof is not apparent on the initial draw, the texture is chewy and voluptuous.

About Us...

Almost 50 years ago my Dad, Bernie, took a huge gamble. With 4 young kids and everything to lose he took his and my moms life savings and bought Midway Liquors. The owners were selling because they thought the opening of I-95, which parallels Route 40 would take customers away. Just the opposite happened, it made traveling easier and the business exploded. Fast forward to today and the business is still growing because our family has maintained the same philosophy throughout the years; Great service, great prices and a great selection manned by a friendly, courteous and experienced staff.

Almost every day we hear “I love shopping at this place” or “this is my favorite liquor/wine/beer shop”. My personal favorite is “I always do my beverage shopping at THE Midway”. Prefacing with “The” sends tingles down my spine because it means we are not just a corner liquor store as we hold a special place in our customer’s hearts.We have planned generations of weddings, graduations, birthday parties, confirmations, bar/bat mitzvahs etc. We thrive on being well informed about new products, new vintages and the whole changing world of alcoholic beverages. Stop in for your anniversary celebration, a dinner party matching wines with each course or grab a 6 pack of Natty Boh. Whatever your beverage needs, we hope to see you at “The Midway”.
