It wasnβt my first, second, or even dozenth time visiting β the intimate and warming -style German β¦π©πͺ tucked in the back of Blackhat V***r Company in historic Murray Hill β but it was the first time I had the opportunity to chat with owner Jason Grimes; to learn about the architecture of the building and bar β¦π§±π¨ the respective histories of its components, and the familial elements interwoven within. It wasnβt that I neglected to notice the rich portraiture on the walls β¦πΌοΈ the assemblages of black-and-white photographs-turned-postcards atop the bar, or the informal positioning of various bierkrΓΌge, krΓ€uterlikΓΆr, and pinnings β¦π behind it, so much as Iβve been unaware of its significance to the Buchner narrative: the centuryβs -old postcards, framed photographs, and portraiture all depicting members of Grimesβ extended family. Histories aside, Buchnerβs too, is rich in traditional β wurst, sandwiches, Bavarian pretzels β¦π₯ππ₯¨ charcuterie, scratch-made desserts etc. β and imported , which can be enjoyed in the bar or spacious , featuring communal tables and plentiful seating β¦π³ With over one dozen options of the latter on draft β¦πΊ β not to mention an impressive selection of packaged and European wines β¦πΎ β finding the perfect pairing for an eveningβs fare is a cinch β¦β¨ and Buchnerβs uber-knowledgable, label-savvy bartenders/sommeliers make it all the more effortless. Celebrating their sixth year in business come June, Iβm excited to see what more is in store for throughout 2025, thankful for the hospitality granted by and team, and grateful moreover, to have this secreted, stellar spot in our community β¦ππ½
