One of our founders, Matt Colglazier, a native of southern Indiana and a veteran of the liquor industry, is also an avid home brewer. Not long ago he noticed how similar the dark syrup mashes of his home brew batches looked to the sweet sorghum syrup sold at road-side stands and farmers markets across southern Indiana. Needing a large supply of sweet sorghum syrup, he eventually tracked down an Am
ish farmer outside Bromer, IN who could supply him with the hand-made elixer. He purchased 8 gallons, made a wash, fermented it, and called Stuart Hobson, the owner and master distiller at Heartland Distillers. Stuart, also a native of Southern Indiana, knew immediately what Matt wanted to do, and offered up the still where Indiana’s first vodka was created to make the world’s first sweet sorghum spirit. Colglazier & Hobson Distilling was formed and now proudly presents a true American orginal, SORGRHUM. After distillation in our copper pot still, sorghum spirit is either blended to bottling strength (86 proof) to make our white spirit or the spirit is aged in new charred American oak barrels to make our barrel aged dark spirit and then bottled at 86 proof. Our one of a kind dark spirit combines the mixability of dark rum with the complexity of bourbon. Try it in your favorite dark rum or bourbon cocktails, or just neat or on the rocks. Our white spirit is great just on the rocks or mixed with your favorite rum cocktail.
