Limited Spring Release! 🌱Kikusui Funaguchi Shinmai Shinshu Cups are back in town 🤙🏼🍶

Your favorite seasonal sake in a cup & this year’s batch is better than ever! With just the smallest touch of sweetness at the beginning, it goes down dangerously smooth.

(Even as a dry sake lover it was so nice!☺️)

You’d never believe it’s also a genshu (undiluted) and has an alcohol level of 19%, but that just gives it a clean finish and makes it so refreshing✨

Perfect picnic 🧺 or BBQ 🍖 pairing, it’s so ono with anything salty, rich, or savory!

It’s been a bit dreary out today, so here’s some cherry blossom we saw in Japan to brighten your day with a new sake to Hawaii!

Sakura Beauty 45 🍶🌸
Junmai Daiginjo

Why such a sakura theme? Well this Junmai Daiginjo Grade sake is actually made from Imazu Benikanzakura cherry blossom yeast, an original & exclusive of Ozeki Sake!

Sakura Beauty is also made from the King of Sake Rice—Yamadanishiki—polished to 45%, so it’s a smooth sake with a fresh fruity aroma like pears, apples, & even peaches 🍐🍎🍑

“Mellow, pleasant aromas highlight the flavor. Slightly sweet honey-like initial flavors fade quickly. Dry, weighty finish.”

You even pair it with anything salty to sweet like seafood, meat, or even desserts. They recommend to try and drink Sakura Beauty with some smoked salmon, prosciutto, and apple sorbet!😋

First sake to start off our wave of seasonal sake: Kokuryu Tarekuchi or Cloudy Dragonl🐉

It’s a Spring Seasonal Junmai Ginjo Genshu Usu-Nigori. (Try saying that fast 5 times😆)

We just introduced this sake from Kokuryu to Hawaii last year and we’re happy to say it’s back again after being released this February in Japan!

As an Usu-Nigori, this means that the sake has a small cloudy rice bottom that’s ultra thin🤌 In fact, you can only see a tiny ring of white on the bottom!

It’s a bright, refreshing sake with the lightest hint of sweetness in the beginning before a crisp dry finish.

As it’s also a genshu (or undiluted), its alcohol percentage is high at 17% and is “firm and decisive in the Kokuryu style. Sharp and dry with heft, finishes cleanly”

So match it with anything fresh like “Spring vegetables, tuna poke, salade nicoise. Also pork shabu-shabu and oysters, either hotpot or on the half shell”! (WSI).😋

We’re home😭☺️!! So thankful that John will still be manning the shop for us today & tomorrow so we can rest from our go-go-go visiting breweries! Also, a special mahalo to everyone who made it possible to visit, who welcomed us, and taught us so much on this trip!🙇🏻‍♀️

On a slightly downer note, it looks like our building’s AC will be OFF due to being worked on for most of today, Saturday (4/5)🥵😥

We apologize in advance, but don’t worry your sake will still be offered chilled or at (a slightly warmer) room temperature!

We’ll try and post more of our travels soon too, but so happy to be home, Mahalo & Kanpai!

A New Flavor in Hawaii! -196 Strawberry Vodka Seltzer🍓

From your favorite Suntory Strong Zero that made its way from Japan to the US as -196, we now have a new flavor in town😎

They use whole strawberries that are then frozen at -196 Degrees Celsius before being crushed & infused.

It’s a great addition to our -196 Lemon, Grapefruit, & Peach☺️

We can’t wait to try them soon, Kanpai!

(PS. For our Aloha Friday Tasting, we will unfortunately not be tasting the -196 Strawberry but we will be tasting the seasonal sake introduced last week😋🤙🏼)

It’s a Narutotai Reunion! 🎏🍶 Two of your favorite sake from Narutotai are finally back in stock, one of them we haven’t ordered since 2023😮

But let’s start off with Narutotai Tomoe Extra Dry Junmai first, which came then went quickly after sampling it during an Aloha Friday Tasting 🌺 last year!

It made itself one of my favorite go-to dry sake since it’s perfect by itself or with a variety of dishes, great at any temperature, & reasonably priced 😋

“Deep aroma of chestnuts and nuts with slight aroma of banana and apple. Soft mouth-feel. Well-balanced extra-dry sake with savory and sweet flavor of rice. Crisp and clean finish.

Pairing Recommendation: Spicy chicken wings with lotus root, Simmered mackerel with miso, Sautéed white fish with cream, Chicken or prawn karaage, Chicken teriyaki, Yakitori, Grilled eel…etc” (KOME).

Try it warmed up, at room temp, and chilled to find your favorite sipping temp☺️

Finally, what many of you have all been waiting for—Narutotai Ginjo Nama Genshu! 🎉

Going to a potluck or barbecue this weekend? Bring a few fun cans of this sake—full-bodied, sweet w/great acidity, & a freshness that easily compliments a variety of dishes.

From the usual sushi and fish, to hamburgers, pizza & cheesecake! It’s a great refreshing sake to bring when your not sure what’s on the menu 🤙🏼

Aloha Everyone, this is just a reminder that we will be closed on March 31st (Monday) to April 2nd (Wednesday) due to our business trip!! 🙇🏻‍♀️

Also while we’re away we won’t be hosting our usual Aloha Friday Tasting on April 4th (Friday) either 😞

But our employee John will still be at the shop holding down the fort for us!

Thanks to him we’ll only be closed for the 3 days instead of the whole week that we’re gone!🤙🏼

We once again apologize for any inconvenience this might cause you & hope we can help you out with any of your sake needs before and after we close!

So a big mahalo to everyone’s support and understanding, which is what made it possible for us to even take a short trip to begin with. 🍶❤️

Cant wait to see you all & we’ll post another reminder next week!

New to the Shop! Kurosawa Ginrei
“Silver Peak” 🏔️
Junmai Daiginjo

We have a lot of new sake coming in, so to start it off let’s try a classic Junmai Daiginjo and silver medalist from the World Sake Challenge back in 2019! 🥈

While this sake is slightly sweet & refreshing, you might be more familiar with the Kurosawa name thanks to their classic dry & Kimoto style sake we carry✨

Kurosawa Ginrei, though, has a more fruity and almost rice-y like aroma with an Asian pear sweetness & acidity before a smooth dry finish to match!

Thanks to its savory and fruity notes it’s great for a variety of dishes—especially those on the lighter side like white fish and vegetables.

Shimeharitsuru Tsuki 🌕 “Moon”
Honjozo

If you’re looking for a sushi night pairing or anything seafood (scallops, carbs, & more!), then this is a sake you have to try 🍣🍶

This is a Honjozo labeled sake but polished to 55%, meaning it’s technically a higher grade—Ginjo—and is much lighter and crisper than it seems.

It has a fruity like aroma but is a dry sake overall with notes of rice on the palate, making it great with richer or saltier dishes. Even cheeses!🧀

Try it for yourself as we’ll tasting this and Hakutsuru’s Umeshu on Aloha Friday!
