While we’re familiar with making the best out of challenging situations, the narrative surrounding the Arturo Fuente Añejo cigar is truly fascinating. In 1998, during the prominence of the Arturo Fuente Opus X, Hurricane Georges struck the Dominican Republic, causing a scarcity in the cigar’s exclusive wrapper cultivated at the Chateau de La Fuente farm. Despite this, the well-fermented Dominican filler and binder remained intact. An ingenious idea emerged: substituting the wrapper with a dark, sticky-sweet five-year-aged Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro, further matured in used Cognac barrels.
The outcome is a velvety, full-bodied cigar boasting a distinctive, intricate flavor and sweetness, a testament to Arturo Fuente’s craftsmanship. Often referred to as the ‘Maduro OpusX.’, if you’re lucky enough to find them in stock, grab them, and FAST!
